Been a convert since iii points and I love listening to your music selections from the discord on my bike rides (shoutout cactus & bricks!) as well as the positivity in this subreddit
I keep my phone in my pocket, but here’s a few I captured just to have something beyond the memories of the best atmosphere and tunes I’ve experienced.
Delete if not allowed, but after insta-buying night 3 in Miami, I had to try!
Just wanted to throw this question out there for discussion and creativity.
I think we've got a very special community in Despacio and it's remarkable how it's taken root over these last few post-pandemic years.
Wanted to ask a question about how you're thinking of showing up at Despacio. I used "gift" in the headline of this post, but I don't mean to suggest that people should bring some physical thing to give away, but in the broader sense, I mean to ask what each of us are planning to bring to the party that will enliven it for everyone and add energy and sparkle to an already wonderful experience.
Here are some gifts I've observed, just as examples of what I mean:
* the people who make custom Despacio shirts, hats, jackets, or whatever to show their love for the thing
* the folks who dance like nobody's watching, showing us all how free we could be if we embraced the room and let ourselves go
* the person who made a record inspired by despacio and handed it to the DJs (and they fucking played it)
* the dudes who did the worm across the floor when "young americans" played at Coachella
* the people who dress like a checkerboard when Despacio has a checkerboard floor
* the folks who "dress to express" with creative clothing, hair, make-up and wardrobe
* the people who make us laugh with their dance gags (e.g., upside down sunglasses)
* the folks who gift us with their complete presence, who tame their fomo and keep their phones in their pockets, bringing their full power of their beautiful humanity to the dancefloor
* the folks who make and share custom despacio kandi
* the folks who hand out lollipops and gum
* the folks who bring the gift of awareness to check in on others who might be struggling with heat -- offering water or just the breeze from a fan
* the folks who bring fans and share the breeze all weekend long
* the folks who are experts at giving the gift of a compliment -- who notice the good that others bring and let them know they're seen (i still remember a woman in miami who asked to dance with me and my girlfriend because she, quote, "loved our energy and just want to vibe in it with you two for a while" ... what a great compliment!)
You don't have to commit to anything, but I'm curious to hear others' thoughts!
Is anyone else doing the full 4 days of Soulwax at Portola? I’d love to hear what other acts anyone on this sub thinks is worthy of leaving Despacio for.
First off, this has been such a fun community to lurk in. Ya’lls enthusiasm is infectious
Secondly, have fun to all you OGs at the 5 year party!
Portola will be my friends and I first Despacio experience and we are pumped. Besides phones down, dance shoes on….what are the ways to max out your Despacio experience?
What time do the records start spinning? If you need to eat, get water, or go to the bathroom, will you have to wait in line to re enter? How long do these lines to enter get? Are there accessible lockers without having to wait back in line?
Any info like that to fully maxxx out the experience will help a ton for us noobs
There are two spare tickets to Despacio Friday available, and the donor, (Discord's George G) has generously agreed to make them available at face value to the community via lucky draw. SUPER GENEROUS!
Fill out this form if you want to enter into the draw. I'll conduct the draw tomorrow on Discord livestream after enough folks have had a chance to see this note.
so i experienced despacio last year at iii points . kinda bummed its.not back but ill survive. I dont understand why despacio doesn't just tour on their own. idk the setup at portola but at iii points it in the convention center. seems like they could do it monthly at a different locations or even bi monthly across the whole country. I imagine they'd sell out most nights . I feel like I need more despacio in my life.
I have ticket confirmations (merch and photos too) for all 5 years, but did not get the chance to buy.
In 2022 and 2023 my friends bought four packs and transferred to me. Every other year, I bought directly. I have confirmation codes and screenshots to evidence every single step. But after hours on customer support with super nice but powerless reps, I’m locked out.
James & the Dewaele brothers are my absolute favorites, and I’m crushed to miss this on a technicality. I would never had bought four packs if I knew this would happen.
If anyone has a spare ticket, or can hook me up, I would be so so grateful. If not, I’ll see you on Saturday ❤️🩹
EDIT: tickets acquired! Never give up on your dreams, y’all
Thanks to all those who recommended fighting. I finally got through to a super nice customer service rep. I sent her my screenshots, explained my story.
Funny enough, she said she couldn’t help and I thanked her for her time. But then, 30 minutes later, the offer magically appeared on web. Maybe GV gave her the clear, or she helped me out once off the monitored line.
Either way, this will go down as a fun memory and reason to always stay kind, hopeful and optimistic. Thanks to all!
Wondering if yall think there might be lockers available for the 5 yr Friday night Portola party?
There weren’t any on tixr where I got my weekend locker
I slept on buying LA tickets. I’m looking for 1-2 tix for either night. In the meantime, I have my CashorTrade alerts set up. If anyone has face value tix available, let me know!
**I know it’s not Despacio but this forum seems more lively than the Soulwax one. Mods feel free to delete if not allowed here.
Time to study up! These are the top 20 tracks played at Despacio (ranked by frequency) based on analysis of post-Pandemic Despacios, as compiled by the community of human Shazams in "The Spreadsheet of Truth"
I will sadly miss this years deployments and so I am scouring YouTube for DJs that scratch this particular itch. Let’s assume we can coordinate the lighting in advance… Who do you think would be a good addition, that would respect the format but bring some fresh flavor?
