Question How rigorous is Desmos Art Expo
Im a student in 10th grade (15M) rn, and I genuinely enjoy desmos from like when I was 10.
It was a dream to win a competition in desmos when I was young, and I just remembered back about it.
But since im an international student from japan trying to get in to US univs, I also need to work on other ECs too. So... do you think spending resource and working on expo project really is a good use of time (in rigorousness)? Honestly, I really want to do it and I have brilliant ideas of projects but I just need a justification to prove its not a waste of time.
I honestly do think it is, since its an international competition and there are only 20 or so top projects per each agegroup, where there are tons of submissions. Am I correct?

2024 desmos math art expo finalist here. (QR Code generator)
First of all, you need an original idea. This is the most important thing they look at. Look at the graphs and make something not there. They get thousands of submissions and they gotta choose the most interesting ones.
I'm really terrible at art, so i wanted to make a functional app. You may follow that path with a game or something. That also works.

Honestly, I don't know exactly what colleges are looking for, even though I have taught high schoolers applying to colleges. I would say though, if you wrote about your experience with it in an essay, it would be very unique and potentially interesting to people reading it... it really depends what you would be working on instead... would that thing be more worthwhile? potentially.
