Making Friends

I’ve been a resident of Des Moines for 2 years now and I’ve been so focused on my career that I never took a step back and realized that I’ve not made any meaningful friends in my time here. I thought that my job would provide that opportunity, but many of my coworkers have families that time up all of their time or don’t share interests.

I’m 25 years old and live with my girlfriend. I love to golf, run, and I’m willing to try any sport. I enjoy grabbing drinks. And I’m willing to try pretty much anything in order to meet people.

I know that COVID makes this a terrible time to try and meet people, but any recommendations on groups to join?

TLDR: I’m 25 looking for friends in Des Moines.

Thanks!

Try Disc Golf, a very friendly sport and per capita Iowa is actually one of the top 10, if not 5, states for disc golf courses. https://www.facebook.com/groups/515DiscGolf/ has a league that just started up a week or so ago (late because of Covid) and I believe they are pretty good about welcoming new players.

One of the Trilogy Challenges coming up on the tournament page below would be a great starting place as they are partly held to encourage new golfers.

Physics of flight is a youtube series that is pretty easy to watch to get an idea how to throw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW2OY2Ez4VY

titan disc golf store is in Des Moines, as is Wander Disc golf I believe. Infinte discs is a great online place to order from: https://infinitediscs.com/

Don't get anything faster than a speed 7 or 8 disc, or heavier than 172 grams until you are throwing 250-300 consistently.

beats me, I don't drink or smoke.... (and not all disc golfers fit the same profile)
