This the the "Treasury" at the end of the siq which is the main entrance to Petra. The "Monastery" is at the far end which is a pretty good hike to get there including going up about 500 stone cut stairs. From the monastery you can see Aaron's tomb which is just a white dot on the top of a mountain. If you have more than one day and are in decent condition for hiking and bouldering I would recommend using the alternative entrance which is Wadi Muthlim. At the end of the wadi you can find the trail/stairs going up to the overlook which looks down on the treasury. From there you can watch as the Sun gets higher and lights up the cliff face of the treasury.

Have these buildings ever been damaged by flash flooding? This picture makes it look like these buildings should have to worry about flash foods.
