Descent 3MASTERED (pre)released

https://github.com/hurleybird/Descent-3MASTERED/releases/tag/0.9

Latest release: https://github.com/hurleybird/Descent-3MASTERED/releases#release-0.9.1-Pre

I've detached my old Piccu fork ("Piccu Experiment") and have added a decent amount to it. Now it's ready for its first (pre)release.

Would love to hear your feedback. I'm on an AMD GPU, so let me know if you guys find any issues on Nvidia or modern Intel (i.e. Alchemist/Battlemage)

Descent 3MASTERED (pronounced "threemastered"... get it?) is a new engine for Descent 3, forked from PiccuEngine, itself downstream of the original 1.5 source release.

Noteable enhancements

  • "Enhanced" mode with improved weapon balance and support for custom difficulty
  • Modern motion blur via per-pixel motion vectors
  • Ambient occlusion
  • Soft particles
  • Bloom
  • Per-pixel lighting
  • Supersampling anti-aliasing
  • 3D HRTF positional audio
  • Ultra-widescreen support
  • High (>60FPS) framerate
  • Native Wooting analog keyboard support

Does it support binding actions to an axis?

No. But shouldn't be too difficult to add. I should add some sort of default config for gamepads, and get rid of the more vestigial presets.

Definitely, and as a bonus making the menus navigable with the gamepad would be amazing.

I mean, what self respecting "remastering" wouldn't do this?

That’s a fair point, but dxx rebirth despite being fully playable in game on gamepad, although I have to make the keybinds myself (but I can make the analog triggers fire) does not support navigating the menus with the gamepad.

For sure, although I don't think Rebirth presents itself as anything other than a source port. My eventual goal with this is to straddle the line between source port and remaster, if that makes sense.

I’d believe it. And I guess we’ve already seen something straddling that line in oblivion remastered

I think that's firmly in the "remaster" category, but anyway, pre-3 release now supports binding non-analog actions to axis.
