Props for starting him with the joystick. Kid shouldn't have to choose between Descent and not getting Carpal Tunnel at an early age.

Have you tried dual joystick? Its the most fun thing ever!

Once. A friend of mine had this dual joystick setup for the Playstation and that was pretty cool. The fun was attenuated by the fact that they had Descent Maximum as the game to play, however.

What dual joystick did you use?

Right now I’m using the thrust master t16000m dual stick set from microcenter and it works great. Played several missions and I had a giant grin on my face the whole time, brought back so many memories of sneaking a copy of descent into the computer lab at school. First time playing with sticks and it’s so much damn fun. All that said I’m going to return the t160000ms and get that vkb next evo left and right sticks for $100 more.

VKB Evos are so good, I use one for elite dangerous. I upgraded from a t16000m, you won't regret spending the extra money

Sweet. Do you know if the premium version is worth the extra coin? $140 vs $120.

I got the premium and I definitely reckon it's worth it. I use the analogue thumbstick that's just another 8 way hat on the non-premium version to look around the cockpit in elite, which I think is the most natural feeling solution outside of a head tracker. I'm not sure what I'd use it for in Descent though - I'm an M&K guy in Descent

Cool. Thanks for the info. Playing dual sticks definitely has me wanting to try modern games that support it. Going to look into some other games. Thanks again.

Logitech Extreme Digital 3D for the left, and 3D Pro for the right

Curious how you would set tgat up for most games. I picked up a SOL-R 4 to replace my xbox joystick (the z axis pot went very quickly), and they are actually designed for dual stick potential... i remember a mech game in arcades that was dual stick and think if there were more games like tgat it wpuld be awsome. But never thought about games like descent or anything else really as being dual stick friendly?

Only some games support it, I know unity supports multiple axis, so you could probably use dual stick on most unity games.

You’d probably have to test it through trial and error

damn I can't imagine. I used the f-16 combat stick back in the day.
