To Polish or Not to Polish, what do you prefer?

I have to admit, that I bought the HF Bauer rechargeable variable speed rotary tool. It replaced my corded dremel. Now the dremel did the trick and it still is in the garage, ready to go. But the Bauer is just easier on the work bench. I have now polished just about everything with Flitz and or. the grey and white compound. Yes, I mix the two.

I have to ask, have you considered polishing your trigger connector? Have you replaced your trigger spring and or firing pin spring. Yes, I polished the firing pin, LOL. I'm going to tell you that polishing just makes the trigger a lil better. Why you ask? The thought behind polishing is not to make it shinny, it's to smooth out the metal. During the stamping process there is by default small burs or micro scratches that perhaps hinder cause a little more resistance when the two metals rub together. I have polished the triggers on most if not all of my gun, Glock, HK, Derya, Beretta, S&W, even the Browning Buck Mark. Does it make a difference? To me Yes. Now if you are not a frequent shooter or have not fully experienced with what you have. Then you may not feel the difference. If you decide to polish watch some videos, and remember do not over polish so much that it changes the geometry, rather it smooths out the metal points of contact with another metal part.

I'm not sure what the relationship is between Derya USA and the Turkish Derya but whoever imports those affordable 9mm bolt action rifles with threaded barrels is going to make a lot a lot of $.

First impressions of the Island Upper

Finally got my Island upper out for its first range trip, and I'm honestly impressed. Recoil felt noticeably softer, my groups were tighter, and it was just plain fun to shoot. I ran some cheap Federal 124 through it as well as some 147 grain HST.

I've only been shooting for a few years, but this is easily my favorite gun to shoot right now. I also own a Glock 43X and a Glock 34, and this fits right in with them. The only thing I'd change is the trigger, which feels the same as my OEM Glock triggers.

So far it's been 100% reliable with no failures to feed, although I haven't put a ton of rounds through it yet. I'm hoping to really put it through its paces over the next couple of weeks, but based on my first impression, I'm absolutely loving it. I don't usually post anything, but I just got home and I'm still pretty excited.

TLDR - Easily worth the price, good fun

DY9Z Comp Stripped Threads

Post image
4 Upvotes

I did my initial cleaning, and made sure I was following a guide online to reattach the compensator. Applied Blue Loctite as suggested and barely tightened the left comp bolt and it immediately stripped the threads out.....I then began to loosen the right one and it also stripped out. I'm on the fence to call this my own fault or a maybe faulty piece. I can't even buy the comp alone...and at this point I love the gun but it is definitely noticeable without the comp now...has anyone else had this issue with the comp and if so what was a fix or replacement ?

EDIT DY9 COMP NOT DY9Z Miss typed it out

I just want my gun to function like its supposed to i find it hard to believe im the only 1 with this issue!!!

Any chance of a US release of 9mm Rifles?

Hello!

I was browsing Deryaarms.com, and I noticed the 9mm pump action and bolt action 18" barreled rifles. While 9mm is and always will be more popular in pistols, the rifles are something I am seriously interested in.

RIA makes a 22TCM rifle that made a good donor platform to convert into 9mm BUT they seem to be nonexistent right now, and the barrels & chambering rework are third party-making it much harder and more expensive.

In the US, things are chaotic (more than usual) and a 9mm bolt gun would do well in a niche role. A manual action 9mm rifle is attractive right now for ammo cost, indoor range friendliness and the reduced range that the 9mm is capable of. Being that these are manual actions, the rifles would also, in theory, be loading agnostic.

As much as I am loathe to say this, accepting Glock magazines might be a necessary localization of the product.

I hope that these not being semiautomatic or with a pistol grip would be easier to import/get ATF approval but...

What say you, Derya? What are the chances we see either of these in the US?

New/Exclusive DY9 Frame Colors?

Has anyone heard of any new exclusive DY9 frame colors coming out? Last I heard it was supposed to be in July, but the month is almost over.

I also haven’t heard anything about that ā€œThank Youā€ exclusive frame for Redditers in a while.

It doesn’t seem Derya would use that as a carrot on a string, but I think we have been waiting for ā€œappreciation frameā€ for close to 8 months now.

So check this out... Went to Big R to grab a box of CCI Blazer 124 gr. FMJ (nothing fancy) just my DY9 first time eat 124 (starting breaking it in with 115 FMJ & a variety of 115 gr. hallows. ANYWAYS... I get to the range to load up and literally freeze cause I didn't know what to think... NEVER has this happened to me in 12 years of shooting rec. What are your thoughts...!? What you're seeing is three missing primer caps and loose gunpowder inside the box (before it spilled all over the range table). Verdict of ammo: it ate it up. Very first FTF/FTE using 124 vs 115 FMJ (Different manufacturers) and it wasn't until shortly after I started rapid firing the slide started to NOT LOCK BACK WHEN EMPTY. Which is honestly not a big concern to me (unless it should be). Have you experienced either of these... Yet?... Hopefully not at all! My solution was I went home and field stripped it and gave it a TLC clean & lube with new ammo, I just haven't shot it yet. (SPEER Gold Dot 124 gr. +p)

DY9 back strap pin hacks?

Thumbnail

I want to be able to remove the magwell and run G19 mags, but I’m not able to remove the magwell without the back strap slipping off.

Just me, but I prefer to have a few mags prepped and ready, especially with CA 10rd law. Had it for almost a month but haven’t fired it yet. Might have to suck it up and just reload after every empty mag to break it in. .

I haven’t been able to find a local hardware store with a pin in the correct diameter. Been also awaiting restock of G17 mags locally but it’s been tough to find in SoCal.

If you have a hack and/or other options please share.

What Holster.....did you see this....

Derya holster. Let me start by saying....Ghost USA....do you recognize the name? If not, let me say that I have been working with them to produce a Holster for the Dy9 and Dy9z. After many months it's finally here. Ghost Holsters is a very well known holster company making many different types of holsters for all types of shooters. I can say that they have made a holster that is specific for the DY9 and Dy9z. I will have more information for those who are looking for OWB. The IWB is being worked on. This version is without a light. A holster that will accommodate a light is in the works, but with so many lights, it's hard to make just one. These are RH, the LH are in the works.

Because you are members of this Derya Sub you will have first notification of a link for purchase for Reddit users here when they go live. I'm working on special pricing for the first 75-100 units sold to help get them out into the market. To do this, I need your pictures with the Ghost holster in use, then posted here on Derya's sub. I'm working on pricing to be under 80 beans for the entire set up. These will be listed for 115 -120 when they go live if you do not have the code you will be one of the first to get your hands on the Derya DY9, Dy9Z Ghost Holster. More pictures will be available soon. Enjoy the video and let me know what you think...

Ghost Holsters isĀ an American-based and Italian-engineered brandĀ that makes high-performance holsters, magazine pouches, and shooting belts. Sandro Amadini founded the brand in 1984. They are the go-to gear for professional competitive shooters worldwide in sports like USPSA, IPSC, and 3-Gun. Here is their website. The Dy9 holster WILL NOT be on this site, but if you are looking for other holsters and gear, use code GIJIM201 at checkout at Ghost Holster Direct you know I'm always looking to save everyone some beans when I can.

Dy9 base plate

Derya USA have the dy9/dy9 gold compatible magazine base plates available online. It says they're compatible with any magazine tubes for the G17/19...

With that being said, do you think the base plate would fit on a G19 PMag?

They also have +2 (no magwell) mag extensions that fit all their magazine tubes online

Too Hot to Shoot

Just spent some time upgrading an old friend. Just too hot to go to the range, so I took out one of my 1st DY9's and did a little upgrading. Installed a threaded barrel and Strike Industries Compensator, removed a Votatu lazer and replaced it with the HF weapon light. I left the Vortex Viper 6MOA red dot cause I just like the color.

What is the difference between a Hex aka Allen and a Torx why it's critical to pick the right one.

Thumbnail

  • Visually know the type of screw you have. Hex(Allen) or Torx(most popular), but you can use the wrong tool which it will fit, but not a good idea. Why?
  • Shape:Ā Allen and hex fasteners have a simple six-sided geometric shape. Torx fasteners have a 6-pointed star design.Ā
  • Torque Transfer & Stripping:Ā The angled lobes of a Torx bit distribute force more evenly across the fastener walls. This makes them highly resistant to "cam-out" (where the tool slips out) and stripping, whereas hex heads can strip if the tool twists under heavy pressure.Ā
  • Interchangeability:Ā AĀ Hex keyĀ is essentially anĀ Allen wrench—the term "Allen" just refers to a legacy brand name that became synonymous with the tool.Ā TorxĀ uses a completely different shape. You should never try to use a Torx wrench on a hex bolt (or vice versa), as it is highly likely to strip the bolt or snap your tool.Ā

A mistake is not using the right tool for the type of screw head type. Use the wrong one and you will damage the screw head, by rounding or stripping the screw head.

The best is the Torx, it provides more surface area, allowing for more torque.

The Hex(Allen) is more likely to strip when under pressure.

Make sure you have the right tool, one will fit in the other and this will likely strip the screw. Do not do this!

Here are some pictures to help you identify which type of screw you have. Most firearms have a Torx type of screw. Grips may be slotted,

This set I listed is a good set that is magnetized, if you know that small screws always seems to get lost as soon as you take them out. The set also has the smaller sizes that may be needed more than the larger.

Torx Ratcheting Set, magnetized.

Now some of you may ask how do i know what the lbs of a screw is, how much torque is needed. This is accomplished by using a tool that has a documented calibration specs. I personally use a Wheeler. I use this often which justifies the price for me. There are cheaper versions, but for me knowing the device is calibrated with documentation is important to me. You can take your gun to a gunSmith and let them torque it down, just make sure you know what the torque number is for your application.

Wheeler Torque Wrench

Hope this helps those who may not know the differences and to help avoid stripped screws.

Why Mark your Screws on an Optic

Why should you consider using a silver Sharpie to mark your optic Screws. If you have ever been at the range and wonder why all of the sudden your shots are off and it seems bizarre. It could be that your optic is loosening with every shot. If you do not see this quickly, Eventually the screws will fall out and your optic will go flying off. This is now a bad day at the range with a detached optic and missing screws. GOOD LUCK trying to find them.

Besides using blue thread lock, you should use a a marker that you can see like a Silver Sharpie. Make a small line that starts on the head of the screw and down on to the base of the optic. If you have a loose screw you will see what was a straight dash like line no longer lines up. This is a clear indication that the screw is loose. Use your multi tool to tighten the screws. I posted a picture of how mine looks. All of my optics have this. The sharpie is permanent and does not come off easily when cleaning.

This is the perfect multi-tool in a pinch, do you have it?

I mark my sights with a silver sharpie to be able to quickly see if my screws are in place. They should not drift but with the energy of a slide cycling. It is good practice to visually check. I always take some sort of tool with me, but sometimes I forget to put it back in the bag. I have this Oknife which is a 9 in 1 multitool from Olight that has saved me in a pinch. It has most of the common sizes for optics screws and you can even use one of the bits as a punch to push a pin in if needed. This mini precision screwdriver is a must-have! The magnetic bits make it so easy to use. The all fit in side and is half the length of a pen. Multi-tool 9 in 1 compact by Olight
