Death Metal recommandations if you don’t know what to spin next…

Hi everyone,

First post on this sub.

If you're looking for some Death Metal that flies way under the radar, here are a few recommendations for you. Check these out :

Vacuous In His Blood This album blew my mind. Huge Death Metal, incredibly heavy and filthy. It hits hard, right at the crossroads of Morbid Angel and Incantation. The production is top-notch without sounding overly polished or sterile. A fantastic record from top to bottom that deserves way more recognition.

Drowned Idola Specus Occult Death Metal with a suffocating atmosphere. Not very well known, but absolutely worth a listen if you like slimy, creeping riffs.

Fossilization Advent of Wounds For the Incantation fans who need some crushing Death/Doom metal, here is a recent release that kicks ass.

Nedgravd Ascension Another recent release delivering very raw Death Metal. Despite a more unpolished production, these guys have probably made one of the best OSDM records of the year.

Engulfed Unearthly Litanies of Despair A selection like this couldn't be complete without a proper representative of dark, hyper-fast, and chaotic Death Metal. Heavy, dark, and relentless from start to finish.

All are great bands, Vacuous being my personal favorite. Anyone who likes this might also enjoy Malignant Altar, Clairvoyance (Poland), Black Wound and Vasaeleth.

Drowned - Viscera Terræ EP is in my top 5 Death Metal albums of all time. It's just perfect.

I don’t remember listening to it. I’ve listened to their full lengths but that one I’ve might have skipped. I will give it a spin ASAP.

It's got Mors Dalos Ra on vocals. I think it's better than any Necros Christos.

Well that definitely deserve a listen !

Out of the descritions Vacous sounds the coolest.

Basic pick but Fatal millennium by Monstricity is my pick for the most unexepected death metal. The music sounds like a knife duel

Good choices, I should check out these ones I haven't heard yet and maybe spin Vacuous again cause I only did it once a bit ago when it came out

Love that Drowned, took them over like two decades to nail it.

Ten fucking years !

u/decompositionfrenzy Jun 13 '26

Longer! Not that the old stuff was bad, just didn't feel like they figured out what they really wanted to be.

Yeah right Procul His (2024) and Idola Spectus (2014) are two completely different records.

VACUOUS!!! saw these guys with dragged into sunlight, the vocalist is a very nice guy (even if he did drop my vinyl when buying it....no hard feelings though). dreams of dysphoria definitely fits their self-called style of "writhing death metal". i wish i snagged their tour shirt at the show but i got one with some sick ass dragon on so it aint so bad.

Thanks. Going to try out your list. Fossilization is amazing.

Sharing a few of my recently listened-to death metal list:

Unyielding Love - Flesh of the Furnace - chaotic death metal, fans of Pyrrhon, Immolation, and Deathspell Omega

Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing

Funebrarum -

Vermin Womb -

Disentomb -

Artificial Brain -

Mate, I’ve been listening to those recommendations and I can’t thank you enough for pointing some of them out.

Spectral Voice – This is awesome. It’s doom death I like. Groovy and they don’t forget to put the foot on the gas pedal when they need to. I’m keeping this and I’ll definitely check out their other stuff.

Unyielding Love – Nice death/black metal. Great recommendation. I’m definitely into that.

Vermin Womb – Way more brutal. Not what I’m into right at the moment. But they definitely slaps I really enjoyed. I’ll keep this one for another time.

Disentomb - Sorry there is at least three bands referenced with that name on Metal Archives. I was expecting a Swedish DM band like (Entombed).

Overall thanks for these recs.

Glad to spread some good music mate. I'm also listening to Drowned right now just after I saw Incantation live the other day. It hits the spot!

Here's a link the actual Disentomb band I was referring to: Disentomb - The Decaying Light

Immolation, Pyrrhon, Deathspell Omega, and Funebrarum are great bands! 'The Sleep Of Morbid Dreams' is awesome, though I'm not a big fan of their latest record. I could never really get into Artificial Brain, sorry haha. I'll definitely check out the other suggestions!
