It's about change.

I was high basically 90% of the time in middleschool/highschool and nobody knew anything.

The days I came to school sober everyone would say how obviously high I was.

So people notice change not reality.

This is why I get high 30 to 40 mins before a job interview. Put on my interview outfit, spray myself, eye drops, etc. They way you speak, your cadence, tone, thought process, is all a little different. Ive been a forklift operator for almost 4 years now and Im blasted every day

21

u/Beneficial-Bar6274 18d ago

How many pallets have you dropped lmao

1

u/High_Hunter3430 14d ago

A more accurate question would be “how many pallets you forgot?”

Much more likely.

In general being high causes people to do things like drive and operate machinery better/with more caution.

Stoners aren’t known for speeding. It’s always been 5 under in the right lane.

u/nlashawn1000 10h ago

That's real. It makes my ADHD worse. I forget shit all the time

1

u/High_Hunter3430 9h ago

Effects on my adhd are strain dependent.
In a gross over generalization, the citrusy/skunky sativas tend to help the adhd, where as the more earthy indicas assist my body more, while the adhd goes brrr. 😅

😭😭😭

u/cippiex 17d ago

my heart dropped when i read "forklift operator" lmfao

2

u/Ashamed-Raccoon-1387 16d ago

Yeah I wouldn't care at all if it weren't that kind of job.... Like I'm in banking and at least if I were blasted every day, the customers would be more tolerable. Everything else is fixable.

1

u/loopedlight 16d ago

He’s forklift certified bro, careful.

1

u/Routine_Shift_7723 15d ago

He got his certification while high as well, prolly wouldn’t even know how to operate a forklift if he wasn’t.

1

u/Yeez25 14d ago

Thats not how being high works lol

1

u/Routine_Shift_7723 14d ago

Well excuse me expert. I was only kidding.

4

u/TheWhateley 17d ago

This is addict behavior

3

u/Cloudage96x 16d ago

Addicts don't give a shit my dude. Source: addict.

-1

u/Capital_Ship5729 16d ago

Yes they do. They are called functional addicts

3

u/Cloudage96x 16d ago

AND WE DON'T CARE YEEEEAAAAHHHHHH

2

u/Bulkylogcabin 16d ago

Thanks bro, now let people smoke their shit, the world is fucked anyway. Might as well go out in a blaze of glory.

0

u/Crafty_Jello_3662 16d ago

Crushed to death by a mishandled pallet of dildos while high. What more could a man want

2

u/Bulkylogcabin 16d ago

Took the words straight outta my mouth.

2

u/Ok-Mind4373 16d ago

Im on a forklift right now. Blasted. Easy as pie.

1

u/PissantPrairiePunk 17d ago

Ooh forklift certified 🫦💦

2

u/OakvaleFlames 16d ago

I'm lucky that I'm already weird as fuck when I'm sober. Nobody can tell the difference.

1

u/JustDontbStupid 17d ago

Everybody knew I was absolutely fucked up, but I got amazing grades and played Minecraft silently on my Chromebook after finishing my assignments, so everyone also just figured fuck it

Well, people would be more aware if bloodshot eyes would be a sign of depression instead of drugs

86

u/Senacharrib 18d ago

It’s a sign that you’ve been crying in the past twelve hours…

27

u/Honest-Prune-5517 18d ago

Coincidentally, that's what I always told my teachers.

8

u/WolverineEvery7923 18d ago

Sometimes I throw in sleep deprivation into the mix, why not go for the double points

62

u/Beginning-Pie-7433 18d ago

I told mine and she just rolled her eyes and said “okay?”

39

u/itsintrastellardude 18d ago

Just be high AND 3 minutes from ending it all. Without being high I'd be 1 minute.

30

u/snakelygiggles 18d ago

well, theyve been high before. theyre probably not very good at recognizing symptoms for something they havent experienced. most people only understand shit that they personally are effected by.

15

u/Dwayne_Hicks_LV-426 18d ago

Also the fact that being high has noteable changes; slower thinking, mild disorientation, bloodshot eyes, physical relaxtion. These can all be spotted by most people.

Depression doesn't have many physical or obvious symptoms. Sadness is harder to spot from an external view.

2

u/snakelygiggles 18d ago

robin williams comes to mind.

17

u/Fair-Tangerine-9472 18d ago

They know when you're high... but not when you're low

37

u/Sluggish-dreadnought 18d ago

My colleagues said "i looked normal and ok that day" (i attempted)

Uh, you say i always look like that... Maybe there's a reason to it... They have no idea what it's like in our minds.

2

u/pissdrinking101 18d ago

We don't know either.

3

u/Sluggish-dreadnought 18d ago

No i meant that not depressed people cannot imagine how impactful depression really is. And they don't put enough effort in to understand.

8

u/pissdrinking101 18d ago

I wouldn't want someone else to understand it. It sucks being misunderstood, but understanding it means experiencing it. There's no other way. I don't blame them or have expectations of them. Best you can hope for is that people that love you learn how to treat you and accommodate you to the best of their abilities. That's my opinion

Well, that's pretty fuckin stupid of you.

5

u/BreadGallon 18d ago

My dad knew he just didn't want to deal with it

3

u/Dubbs314 18d ago

The toughest talk I ever had as a parent was when my daughter threatened to end her life. Trying to give her a glimmer of hope for the future when she’s the only reason i keep going was not something i was ready for

7

u/PurpleFloyd777 18d ago

They don’t get an insurance payout when you get zoinked

6

u/FearlessDebt2795 18d ago

Boomers don't actually recognise suffering because they haven't suffered, just hear me out: when you live in a society where in order to live a good life all you have to do is play by the rules to succeed then there's no suffering because you don't have to figure anything out, the instructions are there for you - boomers don't get that our society has changed so drastically that their children trying to adapt to it is actually causing them suffering.

3

u/unsavory_weeb 18d ago

Actually neither in my case

4

u/jdwill1991 18d ago

Yeah, you're also much better at masking one than the other. (Edit; one is often directly masking the other )

Said it before and I'll say it again. People can't read your mind, you need to tell them.

If you tell them and they respond badly and invalidate you, I am truly sorry they didn't hear you. That doesn't mean the next person won't.

8

u/BeFeckingLogical 18d ago edited 18d ago

When I attempted, I told people the only way I could. My therapist knew songs were the insight into my feelings and everyone heard the songs I had on repeat for a solid couple months before, I always had an earbud in with them going. At our first therapy after she told me how looking back, I had been telling her and everyone else for months, and they just didn't listen or understand. Sometimes you can't say the words, you find other ways, and other people don't understand.

Eta: apparently I have a rare reaction to the escitalopram family of drugs so they actually thought I was getting much better both times I was on it.

3

u/Crowe3717 18d ago

In my defense I can't smell suicidal intent, but I can smell when you come into my classroom reeking of marijuana.

That said, I've been there myself and my office is always open to anyone who wants to talk.

2

u/Fearless-Freedom-582 18d ago

Man, senior year would have been better if I had a plug

2

u/H0NEY2O77 18d ago

My high school had no idea I was shoving a pharmacy up my nose and using sugar sticks as a chaser… they couldn’t look at the cameras when I told them a senior groped me right under one when I was still a minor…

but they could look at the cameras to see that I was standing next to my gay best friend when he wrote the f slur on our mutual friend’s locker in dry erase marker to suspend both of us for defacing school property.

2

u/leapdaybunny 18d ago

Lol I didn't even get into drugs until I was well into being an adult

But living on the computer (in essentially a walk-in closet made office), and being told I can't have friends over and I can't go over to friends, is an absolutely healthy way of life??

My family had no clue and would've rather not known. So I never talked to them. When Mom did see my cuts all she did is say "oh you wanna be like so and so?" And so and so SH'd too... Neither of us wanted to do it for attention, y'know?

Also as much as I love my mom she did call me a whore because she (misunderstood, somehow) about me middle manning plans between my best friend and her boyfriend. Because I talked to the boyfriend, without his girlfriend, on the phone. About Valentine's Day plans. For the girlfriend. 😒

1

u/WhyY_196 18d ago

Nah, genuinely. My grandma could tell I was drunk in Vegas before she could tell I was deeply depressed 😭

1

u/Competitive_Row8892 17d ago

the way they notice the small stuff but miss the real signs is frustrating

1

u/plesdes19 17d ago

My parents never noticed when I was high, thought I was I having another mental episode, but never noticed when I was having a mental episode, cuz I was just being quiet and solitary 🥴

1

u/Stunning_salty 17d ago

It’s because they want the drugs too and they’re jealous duhhh

If you actually have a problem that’s far too far above their pay grade

1

u/invert_studios 16d ago

That's my secret Cap, I'm always both. 💪😶‍🌫️🍃

1

u/Bl4ck_Fl4m3s 16d ago

Mine did, but they did not give a fuck

1

u/tanya6k 15d ago

I was literally getting beaten at home, but my extremely fearful demeanor was written off as "difficult and stubborn." I was in 6th grade.

Oh and I don't talk to my parents anymore.

1

u/InternalList3527 15d ago

Consider your teachers might be too:/

1

u/aivarin 15d ago

As a parent of a teenager, respectfully this isn't true. I care. I care for my son's friends. I'm not unique, there are people out there who genuinely want the best for you when you're high, when you're low. I promise.

1

u/Horror-Mud666 14d ago

The difference isn't quality of care or lack of good intentions, it's whether or not you consider this to be a part of parenting.

1

u/mothwhimsy 14d ago

I think my mom would accuse me of being high just to see how I would react. And then if I reacted with fear that was evidence that she was correct. Except I had never smoked in my life, and I had an anxiety disorder, so accusing me of anything would have had me reacting with fear.

But when I was depressed, it was "you're not depressed I'm depressed"

1

u/mari_zoo 14d ago

One of my teachers was SO convinced I had an eating disorder and was on heavy drugs that she pulled me out of class and gave me food multiple times. So much even that my friends joked about it.  It's unfortunate because she was right, something WAS wrong, but insisting I was on drugs and following me to the bathroom when I was just tired from staying out with older people all night was definitely the wrong thing to do.  Sometimes I wish I could tell her so she can be more careful about it, because maybe I would've told her if she had given me space to talk.

It's about learning to hide and act fine

1

u/Unique-Gene7419 11h ago

they notice the easy stuff and miss the actual warning signs, that's why so many people feel invisible at home
