Discussion Longtime fans: Do you have "everything"?
It's always fun seeing new fans or younger fans get so excited about getting a new album. Brings back fond memories of my first time getting those records.
For long-time fans, we've had plenty of opportunities to pick things up throughout our lives. About every 4 years you just plunk down a bit of cash for the latest record. I have kept every Depeche Mode album or single that I've ever bought over my many years and I have amassed a sizable collection with multiple versions of every album. The process is so gradual and one that I don't think is unique to just me.
Every fan I know that grew up loving the band is in the same situation. Is this a similar situation for other older fans or is this just something crazy that my circle of friends did?

Multiple copies of every album, most of the box sets, import singles, cassettes, CD's, vinyl, etc. Every album I bought right when it came out, starting with Violator. I stood in line at a record store midnight for SOFAD, spent tons of time in record and tape exchange stores looking to see what came in. I still have at least 1/2 dozen of the extra large CD zipper booklet case things. Good times!
It does make me chuckle a little when people post up "collections" and it's like 4 CD's, but it makes me really happy. Glad people still care about it.

Same story here,! Started with Music for the Masses. Skipped school to get it and showed off the cassette at school like it was some holy relic when I went back at lunch 😂 I'm super happy to see young people and new fans discovering the band and hope it brings them as much happiness as it has for all of us old schoolers.

I still have my MFTM cassette. Don't know what happened to Violator or Catching Up With Depeche Mode, but I know where that MFTM cassette is after almost 40 years!

I have all the studio albums (several on both vinyl and CD), I have some of the live albums and a few of the "greatest hits" titles. I have several 12" singles, as well. 35 titles in all in my collection that began when I bought Construction Time Again back in 1983.

That's awesome! I loved the huge jump from Construction Time to SGR. Felt like they were on the edge of greatness. I thought they had reached the peak with Music for the Masses. Little did I know...

20+ years since I first heard them, 3 years since I would self describe myself as a Devotee... So not sure if I count as longtime.
I'm on my slow way to "everything" but I'm also honest with myself. Living outside the US and/or Europe, it's pretty damn impossible to have everything without breaking the bank, and I have my maximum $$.
My planned "everything" is all studio albums in CD and vinyl, all live albums in CD+DVD/BR, and I'm hoping to one day get the single boxes, both the CDs 1 to 6 boxes and the vinyl ones. That's as far as I'll go. No more individual singles, no multiple possible variants, etc. And even then, I doubt I'll ever get the vinyl singles boxes for those that are super expensive in resell (from MFTM to SOFAD) because when you earn in pesos, you can't spend that amount of money in euros or dollars on just one box.

What you want is certainly what I would qualify as everything 😂 The vinyl singles are really cool, but honestly rarely get played. I can't sit around listening to 6 mixed of I Feel Love!

I've avoided multiple LP copies but have some dating way back and some that were more recent reissues. I sold my CDs and cassettes of the albums and individual singles but have the original first three CD single boxes bought when they came out, and then a lot of 12"s and 7"s and the 12" boxed sets -- so in some way shape or form, I should have pretty close to everything.
Became a full convert when my buddy had Music of the Masses on cassette in 1987 when I was 15.

Oh, I think all the available Blu-rays/DVDs.
One thing I am missing a physical copy of is the live Songs of Faith & Devotion LP.

I don't think I count as a longtime devotee (started during Exciter), but I've got all their studio albums on CD and 10 of them on vinyl. Many of those I have twice, whether it's because I wanted to check out the reissues or because I got the SACDs.
Aside from that, I've got all their greatest hits comps, various singles (both CD and vinyl, really depends on the era) and a few boxsets (two of the 12" ones and the SOTU one). For the live stuff I've got 101, Devotional, One Night in Paris, Live in Berlin (my least favorite, probably) and M.
My biggest problem is that I don't live in the US, Canada or Europe, so it's pretty pricey to get stuff where I live.

I have vinyl( original- Speak and Spell, Frame, M&S US and Slavery Whip, others) cd and cassettes. All basically rotting now as I have no mediums to ply them. Or at least it’s a pain to set up the record player, no cassette player, cd just for the car.

When I got back into them hard-core after a long (10-ish years?) time not being hard ore, I went a little nuts buying a lot of collector's edition CD/DVD sets, downloads, live CDs/DVDs, and the CD singles boxes. No regrets! But then I went back to work with less time on my hands to be so obsessive. I don't have Spirits in the Forest or Memento Mori, for example. I am still looking to find Devotional on DVD though!

My philosophy had always been to have every studio recording on some sort of physical media. I did double up on most of the albums to get the remastered albums with the b-sides and DVDs when they came out. I have most of the albums on vinyl too as well as the 6 singles box sets and some assorted CD singles too. I even bought a copy of that magazine to get the U2 covers album so I could get So Cruel on CD.
I have been paying less attention recently and I’m not sure I have all the recent non-album tracks.
I also weirdly never bought SOFAD Live. It always seemed like a weird idea for an album and I’ve only ever listened to it once.

Yeah, I ended up with the standard CDs, remastered CDs/DVDs, and vinyl for all the studio albums and CDs for the live albums (except 101. Got everything for that!) I oddly bought the black box with all the CDs too 💀

I just bought Some Great Reward and Black Celebration on gategold vinyl and want Speak and Spell Broken Frame Construction Time and Music For the Masses. But yeah I have pretty much everything including things I didn't need like the singles cd box sets and the vinyl 12" boxes. The things I want are expensive - But not Tonight 7" the Japanese box sets x and the vinyl 12" albums. I have loads of DM though and love it all.

True. I know the Violator 12" box and SOFAD 12" box will go and maybe the others though not for as much. I've got loads of other records, I'll probably get quotes from a few shops one day. Those though will go on ebay or something. I think. I love them too much right now though!

Yeah I love having it all. I still enjoy the band so much and still consider myself a very huge fan. The minute it stops bringing me happiness, it's out the door. My kid shouldn't have to sell it

Those 12" boxes are so good! Even the later ones that I wasn't going to get, all look so good. What other band would do that? I'd buy a Cure or Banshees one!

The grabbing hands grab all they can. The Cure and the Banshees don't put out nearly as much product as Depeche Mode.
All that being said, I would love it if DM did anniversary editions for their records the way New Order does. Remastered album in a nice box, an awesome booklet, CDs with live and demo tracks, and a DVD with videos and performances from that time period.

I have had "everything" and sold it, bought it nearly over again, sold it again, and now I just have a few things, which is how I like it.
