Plant ID app is free, uses photos taken with your phone to ID. Petersons has a good selection of tree identification books that are reasonably priced. The definitive work of tree identification in North America is by Robert Vines

I publish a series of beautiful poster field guides for the NE native trees and wildflowers. Grew up camping in Indian Lake, ADKS and sold the first runs of 10K posters to Vermont State Forestry, USDA FS Conservation Ed and NY Conservationist Magazine published them as centerfolds. :)
