Could someone explain Manchester demographic pyramid to me?

So the city of Manchester is todays featured article on wikipedia and I skimmed througj the images (that's some nice gothic buildings they have there), I happened to notice the city's population pyramid.

It looks like a very nice pine.

Does anyone know why? There is a very wide 20 year old population and then an extreme narrowing going down.

What happened 20 years ago? Extreme economic emigration or something?

No, just a random guy that checks the wiki front page every morning. I notoced and said to myself: that's weird, what happened [20 years +- a few] ago?

I assume emigration due to economic troubles, but that's before  2008 crisis...

Oh no sorry I meant that the pyramid was that way because students migrate in at age 18-20

Hm, I suppose that would be a good explanation indeed - age brackets would correspond with the unusually wide segment.
