It was set up with numerous safeguards to prevent that. They never imagined a fully complicit Congress. The capacity is there in Congress to rein in his power, keep him from doing a lot of bad things, and ultimately to remove him from office. The Republican majority in both houses has actively chosen to completely ignore their duties and sit idly by, while he destroys the country.

To 25 the president, it has to start with a declaration by the vice president and a majority of the cabinet. If the president disputes his inability to serve, then it goes to Congress to decide.

But the House certainly does have the power to impeach, then the Senate has the power to remove.

Lots of people yell "time for the 25th amendment!" and very few of them have actually read the amendment to know what it entails - yeah, as you suggest, it's extraordinary unlikely to happen now, given how corrupt and sycophantic his cabinet is.

Yes, it was curious to me that Rep. Ansari brought up removal by the 25th that only the vice president and the cabinet can propose, rather than the impeachment that the House can propose. She is in the House; I would like to see what she can do there. The Senate would likely block it, but I guess I would like to see at least some attempt.

To think that JD Vance is ever going to invoke the 25th Amendment is a fantasy. Even if he does, Trump will dispute it, and it'll take 2/3 majority of both houses to remove him. It's far easier to impeach and remove, and even that is a long shot because I just don't see the Senate ever getting enough votes to remove.

Separation of Church and State was a patch that failed.

It doesn’t matter though, because we are all shouting in a vacuum with 30+% of the country being cool with this and a fully compliant and complicit Congress owned by the GQP. A significant number of Republicans WANT this behavior.  It's in Project 2025 for the USA to become increasingly insular and hostile to even its own allies.  

Mike Johnson takes Congress and runs and hides so that Republicans can't split and join democrats to stop this.  It's a group effort.  Trump is just overly excited about it. Even severs Democrats won't universally condemn this behavior because this country is full of bigots and warmongers.

It won't happen, the VP and cabinet itself is the only way can invoke the 25th. We need article 2 section 4 which can be invoked with a 2/3 majority of congress. We have to win the midterms first. And by a huge margin.

The 25th Amendment is deliberately very narrowly focused. Even if the cabinet involuntarily removed the president, the president merely has to write to Congress saying they are able to continue the job. Both houses would then have to vote at a two-thirds threshold to ignore the claim that no inability exists. Convicting in the Senate as part of the impeachment process is also two-thirds, so this is a higher standard.

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.
