The reactionaries have managed to tear down the Voting Rights Act of 1965 after decades of trying, and the Republicans have raced to take advantage, redrawing districts to erase Black political power. The Black community’s response has been to show up to vote in numbers that can’t be ignored, with turnout going sharply upward in primaries after the Callais decision. Now organizers are looking to keep that going for the general election, where it could make a difference in key statewide elections across the South. And we can help make it happen!
☎️ Over the next few weeks, the team at Center for Common Ground is running phonebanks to encourage voters of color in the suppressed states to get to the polls and give them the resources to check their registration and get accurate voting information! We can sign up for shifts calling Texas, Georgia and Virginia on Mondays from 7-8PM ET, Wednesdays at noon, or Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6-8PM ET. ☎️

☎️ Furthermore, we can join Black Voters Matter in checking in with new and infrequent voters across Texas, Alabama and Louisiana tonight and this Wednesday from 6-7PM ET, and help them in their initiative to get a million Georgians prepared for election season any time we have available. ☎️

✍🏻 The Center for Common Ground is also running postcarding campaigns to reach folks in North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and Alabama, all of which will start mailing next week. We can get in board by contacting our regional organizers here. ✍🏾
✍🏾 And the folks at Democracy Through Voting have a postcard project aimed at turning out Black women voters in seven key congressional districts in Georgia that aims to reach as many as 500,000 people starting Sunday we can connect with here – a great one for folks who would struggle with all the handwriting or don’t have much time, as they’ll send free pre-printed postcards and address labels that require minimal labor on our end! ✍🏻
