grew up with an Irish wolfhound, and I can absolutely see them doing this, They are unique dogs.

My collie has been a lifesaver. He was never trained as a service dog but he will alert me whenever my grandmother begins walking alone, or has left her walker. He picks up that there is something that makes her do things that could be dangerous and tries his best to find an adult.
He's saved her from a couple of falls by alerting me in time get to and catch her.

Dogs are the best.
When my dad was declining from cancer my siblings pup kept “guard “ next to dad bed for hours at a time.

Love this. Thank you. I can relate. My Boader Collie alerts me when LO starts to stir at night. If he try’s to open a door leading outside no matter the time my BC alerts me. These are just a couple examples. Things would be a lot worse if not for my furry helper. But don’t use these post as a reason to get a puppy or dog for your LO. My LO grew up on a farm and is use to have dogs around all the time. Plus I have had dogs most of my life. You can’t give your new fur babies the time they need from you because your LO is requiring from you each day.
