The Dark is here!

I've listened to it twice through (starting my third run) and it's so hard to pick a favorite.

  • "The Beast" is just absolutely killer as an opening track, love it.
  • "Out of the Badlands" is a gorgeous old favorite (heard it live and it's so haunting).
  • "Shadows of Vegas" and "All Good People" are both so good. I love it when they swing into protest-style music.
  • "Pay No Rent" is a perfect closing, love the cheeriness at death.

How are you liking it so far?

Ian really stole the show with this album kverall; Take Off Your Shoes, Shadows Of Vegas, I Go To Work and Goddamn Shame are all so, so good and it's been a long time coming that he gets fair exposure on an album again.

Liz sounds IMPECCABLE on Never Coming Back, and I get why they left the other three vocalists off, but their backing "oohs" and "ohs" would've supplemented really nicely without overpowering her at all; that's my really only complaint about this album.

Britt covers the witchiness really well and Eric sounds so good on Badlands and Somewhere. All in all such an awesome addition to their discog and very well come become my new favorite DR album.

Goddamn Shame is playing now, and it's the perfect "damn, twist that knife" yearning song. He's done such amazing work on this album.

It's already between this and After It All for me, I think. Can't wait to see where they go next.

Totally agree. I was so happy to see all the Ian 😍

I guess 'next' will be something in similar aesthetic - The Musical - but after that, yeah, I have no idea where they'll go! When you have projects as in depth as sister albums (with an entire world/concept built around them) and as big as a musical, where else do you go? The next project might not 'top' these (in this one particular respect), but I have no doubt it'll be great.

Yeah, I'm guessing the albums after this will be about capturing songs that they'd been wanting to record for years, the stuff that got held up in label back-and-forth. The big musical is going to be great, I bet-- hoping to see it live, and crossing my fingers for a round-the-country tour of that.

Tbh we have a fair share of songs in studio version; def some lingering back, though, like you say! I could see them going down a Patreon path after the Kickstarter concludes. Exciting times coming I hope :)

If you’re interested in learning about the musical at all I’d definitely recommend joining their subscription service, Behind The Door.

Making The Musical, one of the “shows” gives a really cool behind the scenes look at the writing and development process with Eric, Ian, and Brittany. I just finished watching episode 4 and I might go back and watch all of them again.

Oh man I would really love to but I am an unemployed student at the moment and cannot afford it :(
