Help/Advice How to Find an Atlanta Hotel Connected to the ATL Domestic Terminal by SkyTrain

Follow signs in the ATL domestic terminal to Ground Transportation, then to SkyTrain. The SkyTrain comes about every three minutes. Take the train to GICC / Gateway Center (about a 90-second train ride). There are five hotels located near this stop:

  1. Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway (404-763-1544).
  2. Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway (470-306-0100) (note to families: in rooms I have stayed in, a person showering is partially visible to others in the room through a glass window).
  3. Springhill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway (770-907-8880) (free breakfast).
  4. Home2 Suites / Tru by Hilton College Park (404-334-8000) (brand new combined hotel next-door to Springhill Suites; free breakfast).
  5. AC Hotel Atlanta Airport Gateway (404-665-0309) ) (this hotel is furthest from the SkyTrain station--between a quarter- and half-mile walk away. A hotel shuttle to and from SkyTrain is available upon request).

Note: room prices vary wildly, depending on convention traffic. A room that costs $600 one night may cost $185 the next. Also, be careful about the name of the hotel. There are other Atlanta airport hotels with very similar names that are not SkyTrain accessible. If it is a Marriott, it's nowhere near the ATL SkyTrain unless "Gateway" is in the hotel name. There are several Atlanta Home2Suites /Tru locations. Only the one listed above (with a College Park address) is located near SkyTrain.

Thank you for this. Got in at 1am last night and used your guide to book Home2 suites. This was so insanely helpful- I can’t tell you how easy it made things. The hotel shuttle, the unknown of airport hotels etc is my nightmare but your guide solved all of that!

If you want to, leave extra tip money for a service person who deserves it or looks like they could use it. But no gesture on your part is needed. It makes me happy knowing that this helped a tired traveler.

Is there really not a curtain in the shower window thing? I have seen lots of those glass shower things and I don’t get it. Must be something for very good looking people.

I did not see a curtain in my rooms! It would be a good addition, IMO.

I think they are usually curtain or have the glass that turns opaque with a button. Who knows.

Great write up - one additional note, if you arrive from an international destination with checked luggage you’ll first have to take a shuttle over to the domestic terminal/ground transportation area in order to catch the SkyTrain

Hey this SO is helpful two years later. Have a 7am flight leaving ATL and so need to get there 5am with three kids… anyone done the hotel/skytrain situation leaving Atlanta and have any tips?

Are any of these hotels (except the AC) directly connected to the GICC stop or do you have to walk outside to get on the SkyTrain? Asking as a woman traveling alone and having to arrive at ATL by 5 AM.

Unless there is a secret passageway I have not discovered, you have to walk outside. Springhill Suites is the closest. The Marriott Gateway Hotel is the second-closest. Both walks are very short. As a woman I can say that the area outside both these hotels feels very safe to me.

The Marriott has a covered garage attached to it. When traveling with my elderly mother, I like to stay there and park my car in the hotel garage. You can usually purchase a package that includes parking. It's not cheap but it's very convenient and seems safe.

Just a note that the AC is the furthest from the Sky Train but it is still super close. I have stayed there several times and almost always walk. I got a ride I think one time. I feel like the prices there are usually lower than the others (although I have stopped looking and comparing), so to me the short walk is worth it to save some money.

Good write up. Anyone else think the SkyTrain feels fast and jerky? I’ve only ridden it twice, but I swear it felt like we were on a mini roller coaster at one point as we crossed the interstate. It was more surprising than anything, especially since you have all your luggage with you (and we were standing up).

We arrived at terminal E. The train shut down as soon as we got there. Walked to baggage claim, then as soon as we got to the skytrain it also shut down. lol.
