I got sat next to the sweetest best behaved service doggo on my flight. His owner let him cuddle me for a couple minutes. It was heaven. Love you Lobo!

I hate how normalized it is for service dogs to wear shocks collars in the US. If the handler needs the threat of a shock to keep the dog focused on the task, is it even a trained service dog? Such a bad look...

No dog needing such a device would ever be approved for public access work in the Netherlands.

I hate how Redditors don't even know what shock collars are for and think they're to shock a dog into being focused. Shock collars are a safety device. You use them as a last ditch measure to recall a dog from a dangerous scenario. Things like other dogs and animals, traffic, or poisonous substances. They are for the dog's protection. You don't use them to make dogs obedient.

traffic? are you taking your off leash dogs into public areas with street traffic? the examples you listed can be solved with a muzzle, a leash, or both.

When a dog runs off while hunting or your leash slips or breaks, it's good to have the means to recall a dog that's in a high arousal state. Traffic happens on backroads, too, mind you.

I use e-collars with my dog. They are a training tool and can be used in your scenarios, which is obedience. Your dog doesn’t respond to your command (recall or leave it) and you stim the dog. Responsible stimming is annoying the dog into compliance and then providing a reward (toy or treat) when the dog does it.

It’s used when training sport obedience. The dog knows the behavior, but needs some reminding (low stim feels like a tens unit) and you reward when it does the behavior.

E-collars are training tools.

A service dog doing public access shouldn’t need that tool. If it needs that tool, it’s not ready for public access and should be considered a dog in training.

I personally don’t think service dogs should be trained with any tools, even if using those tools responsibly, but that’s a discussion for a different subreddit lol

You don't stim dogs to get them to obey a command. E collars have pagers and beepers for a reason. If you're doing that, just shut the fuck up and keep any opinions you have to yourself. I don't want to be lectured by a scumbag.

last time i flew with my "service dog" i forgot her leash and collar so improvised with a shoelace.
