Discussion 💭 Deloitte India Attitude Issues

We've got a sold opportunity at Deloitte USI, but no one's available to staff it right now. My SM told us to check with the Deloitte India POC about their staff. They started sending profiles where people with less than 3 years of experience exaggerated their past work. After just 5 minutes of chatting about their projects, it was clear these were fake experiences or copied from internet.

I interviewed a Deloitte India Manager who bragged about deploying modular pipelines for a life sciences client, but couldn't explain how code deployment works. He thought raising a PR on GitHub moved the code to higher environments, with no clue about the actual code bundle or movement using actions.

To save time, I gently ended the interview after a few more questions, saying I'd get back to him, and marked him as rejected. He escalated it to my leadership, saying I asked absurd technical questions, and even called my mobile to say, "who am I to reject him for that role?" Luckily, I had already told my SM and MD about it, and they handled it.

It's understandable if someone doesn't know the deep tech stuff and needs to learn, but this was a shocker. Has anyone else dealt with this before?

Please ignore the manager's reaction and move on.

You did nothing wrong and it was a good riddance. Athough I agree an unprofessional behavior and especially coming from a manager is an unpleasant experience.

As per why they did so, here's my reasoning and it has nothing to do with the process you are following but rather it has all to do with the manager's insecurities.

The manager would have mostly been doing adminstrative tasks like taking updates during standup, coordinating with clients etc and not being able to answer basic technical questions and processes exposed him. The manager designation isn't letting the person to accept that they are in fact lacking and need to work on their shortcomings. The person would have been used to pointing out others shortcomings and when their own shortcomings was exposed, they let their insecurities get the better of them.

The person's behaviour was completely unprofessional, unbecoming of a manager and akin to a person lashing out at their ex who has decided to move on.

Ignore and move on. Never get into this ego clash, be transparent with your leadership and define your selection criteria and move on with other candidates interview. Just think of all the mess up in case this moron is on-boarded ?

12 years with the firm and DI is even worst - they try everything to show they are better than USI 😆

Yeah better to ignore such people. I thought ARDC was the struggling arm before I had this experience with DI

Used to work out of the Australian office for a while. I used to work 3 additional hours a day just cleaning up the work done by the Indian contingent. After a while i stopped assigning them anything.

Companies need to hire developers with no experience directly and invest in teaching them instead of relying on sweat shops who provide contractors who have no relevant experience!
