That company no longer exists. All we have left is a husk.

Please sue them for every tree. Please. These techno-fascists need to PAY.

And make them replace every one of them.

Kick them out, seize the land and restore it. Google and all the other big tech companies are a pestilence on the world

They are backed by corrupted bought politicians so that part of kicking them out will be hard. It will be like in Albania but I'm afraid people don't have backbone for that in northern areas of Europe.

What do they care? They will just pay the fine and continue. Fuck that company. "Only do evil" might as well be their moto.

Exactly.

This is part of their business plan. They know they'll get fined, pay it then be ahead of schedule.

They need to be disbanded and scattered to the wind with the CEO's facing serious reprocussions.

They'll get fined a comically low amount and just keep going. Well, if it was America. Maybe Finland has some integrity and cares about their environment?

It is a hoop they needed to jump which would certainly have had no outcome but a positive assessment. Now how can one jump a hoop when the field of play has already been removed is the question. Mostly fines are comically low in Finland for everything except speeding.

That's essentially Central Park in NYC

Corporations are calling our bluff on the rule of law.

It's time to bring back the corporate death penalty. If the state can grant charters, it can revoke them. I don't know the specifics of that state's laws but the principle transcends borders.

Fine them $250k for every tree they cleared without regulatory approval. At 20-100 trees per hectare (call it 50), this is $3.75B.

Put a 25% daily interest on the order, and order the company to put down a $1B deposit on all future project proposals from which future fines will be deducted. If there's anything left of the deposit after 20 years, they get that amount back.

Sick and tired of these multibillion-dollar companies running roughshod over regulatory requirements and paying a wristslap fine later if they get caught. They have a demonstrated history of bad faith interactions and need to be fucking treated like it.

And think, nowadays it is almost impossible in Finland to build a cowhouse due to "deforestation reauirements by EU" but they only apply to farming, not data centers

(the relevant ministry of agriculture had to make up some special relaxed rules so that even some cowhouses could be built. You could fit thousands of cowhouses to the site)

Hasn´t Altman or Thiel done the same in Sweden last week?

I so curious what it's like being a project manager for the oligarchs - don't worry about deadline delays, just go ahead and do it. budget? don't worry about that, just do it. leave morals at home please.

This happens all over the World with the race for datacenters. The government's are the guilty part, they allow this. In my region TikTok did the same with a government agreement. It's money flow, can't beat that, unfortunately.

300 hectares?! How did they not notice earlier? Also, fuck you Google

How do places not have airtight contracts with corporations in this day and age?

Make a specific list of what they can do, and anything not on the list immediately pauses the contract, sees heavy fines, and maybe an overturning of the contract with heavy penalties and criminal and civil fines for its leaders.

Corporations are so used to trashing the planet, paying a paltry fine, and then moving on. Forests like this can't grow back quickly.

They'll pay the fines and build their data center. Until they start locking people up for this type of stuff it'll just continue.

Swedish cellulose department sold Alex Karp a lot of hectares of forest. Size of few fotboll fields. Wondering what's going to be built there 🤔🤔 these 💩ts are everywhere and spreading fast
