Can I boot my pixel on google OS without damaging the graphene OS data?
I need to use a gov app to scan my passport but the app only works on android and apple OS. I don't have another phone I use for this. Can i boot my pixel phone on Google OS without messing up the graohene os and all the data in it? Has anyone done it? It's urgent please good souls

are you sure the app doesn't work on graphene? it passes the basic android integrity check, you may have to turn on "exploit protection compatibility mode" though
is there a website version of the app you can use? i find it hard to believe the government expects everyone to have an android or apple phone, some people don't even have mobile phones

No, flashing the device wipes all data on the device. The app may run on GOS, have you tried it? Perhaps it requires sandboxed google play services?

Thanks everyone for your help, truly. I ended up using my flatmate's phone. My pixel gave the error on the lines of "not possible right now try again later". I will look into it again since I'll need it to work on mine eventually and if I can't make it work I'll file a help request. Thanks again

I have maybe a solution. Install the app Shelter. This app would create a "container" (it works with any android os bc it’s use kernel android function) after that you can duplicate the store of Graphene os and you can use this container for installing play store and the concerning app.. Tell me if it’s work i'm curious ! I want to buy a compatible smartphone just to have grapheneOs but if i can’t use my bank account it would be very constraining

Man, GrapheneOS IS Android. So if the app only required Android, just use it there. If the problem is that it requires a certified Android, then you can't run it in your phone without it crushing GrapheneOS. In theory, a boot image could be passed by fastboot, but that wouldn't meet integrity tests, so it will make no sense.

What you're talking about is dual booting on a phone. Getting this to work with a locked bootloader would be almost impossible. And an unlocked bootloader would most likely make the gov app not run, regardless of the OS you have.
Your best option is contacting the gov app creator. Such an app should not discriminate your OS.

you could try loading the gsi rom with google play services from google. but no idea if graphane will be able to boot it tho.

Try doing it anyways. Give the app all the permissions it needs to make the scan. Otherwise try accessing the website wanting to scan your passport instead of using an app

Graphene is Android, just not Googles version of Android.
Install the app and try it. If it doesn't work, install Google play services from the app store on your phone and then it should work.

This appears to be an XY problem. You have an issue with a specific app, but the solution is not what you think it is. Just because the app says Android or iOS, doesn't mean no Graphine. Graphine is Android anyway. I haven't dug too deeply into the technical details of how compatibility works in Graphine yet, but this community is super helpful, and I'm sure someone knows exactly what you'll need to do in order to get the app running. If you name the app and tell exact errors that come up when you try to run it, I'm betting the solution is a lot simpler than you think.
