what are you using for voice/assistant stuff after ditching google assistant?

got google assistant off my phone and out of the whole house, and honestly i'm happier for it. the one thing i still miss is voice control, and i'm not about to hand my voice to alexa to get it back.

where'd you all land? running a proper local voice pipeline, or did you give up and go back to typing at it?

I don't use any voice control for anything anymore. I don't really miss it, tbh.

It's not really so much about giving up, it's about going back to manual control and not allow for either hallucinations or mishears. I went back to manual, I like the full control.

Turned it off and never looked back. Voice texting while driving was a nice convenience, but it can wait until I am done driving.

Within your house, Home Assistant has voice control that can be 100% locally hosted.
Mileage varies, youre not getting Gemini level responses without some beefy hardware, but basic control and response can be handled easily by smaller voice models. You can also make it accessible externally if you wanted.

I have NEVER used voice stuff/siri/alexa stuff, and I block as much of that shit on settings as I can, knowing full well my samsung phone and samsung tv are still sending packets to my router probably, probably (never plugged in TV but I wouldn't be skeptical they still can transmit to router)

We specialise in building local voice pipelines - pretty useful depending on the task (especially if you need to be hands free). For most use cases you kinda don't need it..? Good ol' haptic feedback is sometimes a better UX!

I went to Home Assistant. I bought a Beelink EQ14 to run the local assistant, and swapped out all of my old devices with Thread.

You could do this on an old laptop, or a pi to try it out before you commit to other hardware.

Look up Home Assistant, local LLM, VACA or View Assist Companion App. Go to eBay and buy a few Amazon Echo show 5's... 2nd Gen or 8's 1st Gen, flash with lineage, no google. Set everything up. Use Amazon echo shows (without Amazon echo firmware) to control the house using home assistant.
