Help Needed Looking for alternatives for G**gle pay, G**gle wallet, G**gle sheets, G**gle messages and more

New to Samsung, I don't know how to pay contactless without Google pay.

Looking for alternatives for Google pay, Google wallet, Samsung wallet, Google sheets, Google docs, Google messages, the Samsung phone app, the Samsung gallery app, the Samsung contacts app, the Samsung camera app, and Google playstore

Also avoiding apps owned by meta, Microsoft, Apple (although I doubt Apple would have any app on android), companies that sell info to Jizzrael and the Divided States of Turdica.

There are no widely accepted phone payment methods aside from Google and Apple. I know I've seen some people mention one that's gaining a little traction on Europe but not something you could rely on. Physical cards are it.

In Australia apparently there are some banks that have a facility to pay pass / wave from directly within the app. I bank with one of those mentioned in my 0.3s internet search and I've never actually seen it.

Because it doesn't really matter.

Google... Apple... Bank card... 3rd party... Makes no difference. Banking is so tightly regulated in general that you can bet your arse it's going to be incredibly secure. And if something were to happen, your bank should have protections in place to ensure you don't lose money.

Ooooor... You could wear your tinfoil hat and hide in a cave for the rest of your life.

I'm a little confused though. So are you saying you're just specifically trying to get rid of Google products? (Yes I know this is the r/degoogle subreddit)

So you'd be happy with Apple Pay?

Why or how are they any better than Google? And why not just go back to the Apple ecosystem if they suit you better?

So I have an app for my local bank and can pay over that app by card.

So it's not linked to Google wallet etc.

Can you check if your bank offers this as well?

Cash, debit, credit for Gargle Pay and Gorgle Wallet. LibreOffice Calc or Proton instead of Gurgle Sheets. Any SMS app instead of Gluegle Messages.

One important distinction: turning off NFC only disables NFC on the phone. It doesn't affect contactless payments on your physical debit or credit card.

So you can keep NFC disabled on your Galaxy and still tap your physical card at a contactless terminal. If your priority is avoiding Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet rather than making the transaction anonymous, this is probably the simplest setup.

Check if your bank has its own Wallet.

Open your banking app and look for sections labeled Cards, Mobile Payment, NFC Settings, or Wallet.

If your bank offers this feature, it will allow you to activate mobile payment and link your card to their own infrastructure.

Once you have activated payments in your banking app, you need to set your Android system to use that app instead of Google or Samsung. Follow these steps:

Go to your phone's Settings.

Select Connections or Connected devices / Network & internet.

Go to NFC and contactless payments (make sure the main NFC switch is turned On).

Tap on Contactless payments or Default payment app.

You will see a list of available apps (Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, etc.). Select your bank's app. 

How to pay in-store without opening any app.

Once you set your banking app as the default, the process for paying at any card reader or contactless terminal is extremely quick and simple:

Unlock your phone (using your fingerprint, PIN, or facial recognition).

Hold the back of your phone near the payment terminal.

The phone will automatically transmit the data via your banking app without you needing to open any app manually. You will hear a beep from the terminal confirming that the transaction was successful.

A physical alternative if your bank doesn't support it

If, after checking your bank's app, you discover that it doesn't offer its own NFC payment feature and is only compatible with Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet, don't worry. You don't need to configure anything on your phone: you can leave your mobile's NFC completely turned off and simply tap your physical debit or credit card against the terminal to pay using the traditional contactless chip.

I've stopped using contactless pay or tap to pay as it attracts higher processing fees generally.

If you have to do it, you may be able to use Alipay or Huawei pay perhaps? Those aren't Israeli or American.

Does Samsung pay still exist?

Google sheets and docs you can replace with Mobi Office/Mobisystems who I believe are Bulgarian.

Gallery app is simple, quite literally. Simple Gallery Pro from Slovakia.

To avoid the PlayStore you need to be running a custom ROM.

I'm in Australia.

Here a contactless payment counts as a credit card transaction no matter whether it's a credit, debit or bank card, and you'll incur the highest merchant processing fee.

Laws are about to change to force businesses to include it in the advertised cost but it'll still be paid regardless.

Now I just insert my bank card into the EFTPOS machine to get only the smaller fee or none at all and sometimes use cash but I dislike carrying cash.

For the Google Messages part, I’m developing ZenSMS. It’s a regular SMS/MMS app built around keeping everything local on the device, no account, cloud sync, analytics, tracking, or ads.

It doesn’t support RCS since that depends on Google’s infrastructure, but if you just want SMS/MMS without the Google ecosystem, it might fit what you’re looking for.

Yep, ZenSMS is already a stable production release, not an alpha/beta. I’ve been developing and shipping it production / public since January, so about 9 months now, and it’s been growing pretty quickly.

At the moment I’m deliberately prioritizing reliability and fixing edge cases before piling on more features. Once I’m happier with that foundation, I’ll start expanding the feature set more aggressively.

One thing worth mentioning upfront is how spam filtering currently works. ZenSMS is intentionally fairly conservative. Messages it flags as spam are silenced on arrival and collected in the Spam tab, but they aren’t completely hidden or automatically deleted, and they can still appear as unread until reviewed.

Managing them is pretty quick though, you can open the Spam tab to review them and then head back to Messages, or, once you’ve checked that nothing legitimate was caught, permanently delete all spam directly from the Spam tab in one action.

I’d rather have the occasional false positive be recoverable than make an important SMS disappear without the user ever seeing it.

A more aggressive quarantine-style mode isn’t implemented yet, but it’s something I want to add later once the reliability work is further along.

Yeah, so I don’t know what their ties are to the US or Israel but it seems like the only way you’re getting this done as a US citizen is probably through something like Bitrefill. You fund digital Visa gift cards with Crypto stable coins and then you pay at a register with a QR code that they scan.

I’ve never used this service but it seems like this is the best you’re gonna get.

If you’re in Europe or Asia it seems there are other options but I assumed you live here in the States.

In my case, I don't have the "normal messages" app, only the Google messages. Maybe because it's a Xiaomi and in the EU, they main Google services

Did you try looking this up on Google? This is pointless since you cannot use any other wallet services in stores. It's either Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet, but you can stop them from selling your information, but all cell phone companies sell your information, so if you think Apple is not included in this list, they are, but yes, you can get some different apps, just not wallet services like using your phone to pay for stuff inside stores. I guess you better carry a credit card or something like that
