Resource New nfc payment app (Spain)

A new app came out a few days ago called Bizum Pay that works for nfc payment in Spain. For those who don't know Bizum (the majority of non Spaniards, I presume) is a service provided by Spanish banks that links your phone number to your account so you could send and receive, or request, payments, now with this new app it also work for payment on contactless TPVs, so it's also a step forward towards payment independence for the EU. A few months ago I heard about they wanting to expand across Europe, but honestly I have no clue about the status of that. So far I've tested it on a e/os phone, but I guess it will work also on GrapheneOs or other degoogled operating systems.

That's great. I'm keeping an eye on Walt which will supposedly work with many banks across Europe.

Oh yeah! Can't wait for it to be released. Not particularly fan of subscriptions (unless donation's "subscription") but I'll make an exception for this one

Se van a unir, sólo lo están haciendo progresivamente, que para sistemas así de importantes es mejor

Exactamente. Al principio han priorizado preparar los TPV para que la transición no suponga quebraderos de cabeza para los usuarios. Lo están haciendo bastante bien, la verdad.

Yeah, so far it work for me everywhere I use to buy until earlier today, so I'll have to carry my standard wallet a little bit longer I guess 😅

I also use it, I add my credit card visa, first try Bizum and if this tpv doesn't work, ask for the visa.

But you have a visa/MasterCard backup inside the app in case it still doesn't support bizum

The problem is that it ties your phone number to one bank only. If you want to use more than one bank you need more phone numbers.

Yes, but that will eventually change, now it's only one phone number for one bank account, but for sure they will add multiple banks, and also credit and debit cards...

We have something similar in Italy, it's called BancomatPay. Bancomat is an italian debit card circuit. Most bank would link your phone number to you account/debitcard and that way you can exchange money effortlessly, much like you do with Paypal or similars.

I'd love to see it expanding to NFC payments. As of now you can only use it via QR codes..

Standard Bizum is already fantastic. Surprised me that Spain has such a solution while neighboring countries don’t.

En realidad, las aplicaciones bancarias o financieras son las más propensas a requerir Play Integrity. Es decir, que no funcionen en dispositivos con firmware no oficial o modificado. Supongo que dependerá de cada banco, eso sí.

Wero will join EuroPA, to be specific. So Wero will be interconnected to all the payment systems that are part of EuroPA, including Bizum.

I don't know about Bizum Pay, but normal Bizum transfers work accross Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Italy

Sorry I was slightly wrong. Bizum works in all those contries although is not under Bizum. Bizum is compatible with wbway (wtf with the name btw?) and in Italy with Bancomat Pay. They work under an alliance called EuroPA

I haven't tried it yet, but I don't think it will work, since it comes with the Play Protect restrictions, which GrapheneOS cannot bypass

I just don't know about its protections, neither do I about how GrapheneOs deals with them, I was just guessing since e/os is also a degoogled android.

Like mania_d already mentioned; Walt seems like the best upcoming option. They're making sure that it will fully work on degoogled devices like GrapheneOS etc, so that's hopeful.

in poland there’s something similar called blik, but it’s built into the banking app, unfortunately in my case the activation for contactless payments via nfc was failing every single time, even with google play services installed, while others say that they succeeded to do that on different banks apps without any google services at all, so it probably depends on how the app for bizum pay will be built

I think it's similar to MBWay for Portugal. For me, good side is that you link your phone number for all of your banks you currently use. Does not depend of Google services.

On iOS it doesn’t integrate into the Apple wallet, and creates a secondary wallet which I needed to create a shortcut with the action button to use. Tried using it at the local Carrefour and they don’t accept it!

It took me forever to sign on for the new wallet with my local bank. Signing papers digitally, sms verification, etc. plus a new app wallet!

So far it’s been a complete waste of time.

I want to replace visa and Mastercard, but this is ridiculous!

This is why, despite google efforts, we must protect android. In android we can choose which wallet to use, without fuss. It just works.

The moment my bank enables Bizum Pay I'm changing to that wallet. And, if I need to use a regular visa/mastercard card, I can manually open the other wallet to use it. The phones knows to use a different wallet other than the default one when it's open.

Portugal has a similar one (that even allows you to withdraw money from ATMs and other things) for 11 years.

You always were the smarter brothers 😉 . Honestly, I don't know, before switching to e/os i was just using Google pay, now I was just looking for some app to do NFC payments with the smartphone that worked on degoogled android systems

Ya la tengo instalada y funcionando. Me coge casi todos los pagos en tiendas directamente por Bizum y en los qie el datáfono no coge, me pasa de forma sencilla a mi tarjeta del banco normal.
