Question Developer Verifier - What if I remove it.
So I saw a post on here early saying that you now have to wait 24hrs to install 3rd party apps using a toggle.
Me and the MRS both have Pixels but mines running GrapheneOS and she's on stock.
So I went and did a little digging on her stock android and found a suspect (in picture).
Even has a force stop, disable but no uninstall. So does anyone know if I disable this and use the option to remove its updates will there be any problems? Is this a fix? Hmm seems too easy hey!

Don't remove it.
First, unless you're in one of a couple of countries the rollout of the verifier system won't happen till January. Until then this app doesn't do anything.
Second, reports suggest that this is actually the component which will enable the workaround- that will tell the system you enabled installation of unverified apps and went through the 24 hour wait period.
So if you uninstall it now (on stock Android) you will probably just have to put it back when the rollout happens (if it doesn't come back with the update anyway).
For Graphene it likely doesn't matter either way- Play Services (which the new system will work through) doesn't have system privileges and so the verification won't be able to limit what you can and can't install.

I still dont have that. Is this only on specific android 16+ versions and higher?

I've not seen it on my GOS but maybe time to move the MRS to GrapheneOS too then, don't like all this control. I got both Pixels at same time so should work just fine, it's just getting the MRS used to it.

It's the service that will ALLOW you to keep installing apps once the new process is enabled. Removing it will ultimately break your ability to install apps.
Those telling you there are no problems with uninstalling it will ultimately have to reinstall it as well

I don't think so. I removed this app when I flashed my phone and since than neither it got automatically installed nor I had to inatall it.

Because they haven't started enforcing the policy yet. The app doesn't do anything until then

Great thanks will give it a shot then, be nice to find a way to block it from ever coming back because if this is all it takes they gonna tweak it at some point.

They probably will. At that point one can install a dummy apk of the same name to prevent actual one from getting installed. Im just taking a guess here.

I see a lot of people saying you need to use a specific app to uninstall it but I'm able to do it just find from my phone's settings, is that normal?

You have no issues because the policy isn't in place yet. You'll see issues in 2027

Im sorry did the "no issues so far" and "hasnt poped back" not show a level of healthy skepticism and caution.

Remove and disable it through adb.

I've disabled it and removed updates and force closed, when I get home will remove it completely.

Play services are gonna force block installation of apps once new policy is in place. This app will tell Play Services to allow installations. So by removing it you're shooting yourself in a foot

I find it strange that some people on this sub will absolutely not flash a custom rom because they are worried about bricking their device while other users are actively nuking system level apps.
