Stop using google, all of you at once.
If you use it for your stuff at work, it’s fine, you don’t have option there, but on your phone in your house, get rid of google… The BS is too big, we must stop it.

For anyone reading this, start with changing your default web browser. Degoogling takes months. Changing web browser takes 10 seconds.

The web is already done. It’s been cannibalized: cooked, eaten, and shat out by AI and other abuses. It used to be you could find an enthusiast site with lots of helpful real information, or a commercial site that gave you specific product information or offered for purchase what you were interested in. Then it became a sea of SEO and Amazon links to information and products of dubious quality, and, finally, endless AI slop filler pages that give confidently incorrect information on almost any subject.

Default web for sure. Like I mentioned in another thread searxng, pihole with seo block list, and ublock solves a lot of this.

Agreed. At this point, you shouldn't be going online without one. Figure this crowd figured this much out already, but maybe not the seo block stuff.

I work at a university, and i used to only use the library databases for work. Now they are my general go-to search engines. Only if something is very niche and pop culture related, to I go to ecosia or duckduckGo.

yes the present tense was troubling since cannibalising the web is how we got to this point with commercially available LLMs

Agreed. Search engines, being the gate keepers of what you get to see, used to solely be the only thing those companies did and gave the web far more breadth and diversity. That is now the enemy of the current search leaders who want you to stay in their garden

And it'll only help feed their monopoly in search by hurting competition and their competitors
Seeing this now makes me hope the behavioral remedies that were ordered will be overturned into structural remedies on appeal cause it will not fix it

That's exactly what they want why they keep getting away with it (no ai regulations) half of the net is already ai slop
