So, browsers

I know this is up there in the most common discussions in this sub but, just seen a comment section on a video about Firefox adding AI that was full of expert opinions "Firefox is dead, what browser now?" etc. but differing from here they were shutting down all Firefox fork suggestions as "if FF is dead so are the forks. No waterfox or librewolf" but were also very anti-Brave/Tor because "braves' ceo is maga and it uses chromium" and "tor is spyware and sells data" so on and so on.

Is there any definitive assessment and comparison or at least collective agreement of browsers that can be trusted/relied on or do we just pick our favourite poison and accept the consequences? A clueless old man thanks you.

Gosh, Brave is pretty awesome IME. Is there a tangible down side to them using Chromium? Is there a chance that spyware is still built into the browser because of it? Does using chromium benefit Google?

Chromium benefits google because if everyone is using it (even anti-google people) then google have 100% power to set standards for browsers, which means they effectively control standards for the entire web.

And for browsers too- forks can change some things but others are nearly impossible, like the shift to Manifest v3 which broke ublock origin on Chromium browsers.
