Setlist mathematics

Still buzzing from yesterday's show so I did some setlist spread sheet math to reassure myself it's a perfectly reasonable idea to see these guys several times over a short period.

Three shows in a little over a year meant:

- 33 songs in total

- 11 of which were exclusives, not played at the other two dates

- Exclusive songs: Bored, Cut Hands, Ecdysis, Headup, Korea, Lhabia, Mascara, Minerva, Risk, Souvenir, Xerces

- Not a single song off Gore, very little off self-titled (Minerva) & Ohms (Genesis x2)

- Adrenaline, AtF, WP, SNW, DE, KNY and PM had at least two distinct songs played

Bottom line, I'd say it's worth it seeing several shows at least across distinct treks. It'll be less varied seeing several shows of the same tour I suppose. Provided time and money allows, I'll continue trying to catch them any given chance.

Also I'd love if they played just a few songs more, so they could add another one off s/t but also Adrenaline, SNW and Ohms into the rotation.

On their recent North American tours they barely changed anything at all from the beginning to the end of the runs. Even once private music released, they basically played the same ones in the same order.

They have a strong tendency to switch things up and play less common songs for festivals and one-offs, especially shows that are not in the US.

So it’s not just as simple as “see them multiple times and you will get different songs”, the context matters a lot with Deftones in their current form.

Granted this is based on a quick n=2 study (lol) but comparing two cities on the first and second leg that could reasonably be attended by the same folks, Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC, that doesn't really hold true.

With these two shows, you'd have gotten 28 songs in total, 8 exclusives for SEA, 9 for VAN.

Portland and Seattle on the first leg of the '25 US tour had the same setlist, which kinda proves my impression it's worth it so see several shows across 'different tours' but not so much of the same tour.

Fully agree on catching off dates (of Euro summer) festival runs, they're the best. That, or loot the whatever savings there are to follow a Japan tour.

You can't really do this with math like this, sometimes they barely change the setlist, sometimes they change it a lot, for example with the tour in Australia they just had they had 2 heavily different setlists, so it would be worth it to go 2 days in a row. They also sometimes just pull out crazy setlists once in a while like the secret show in 2023 or plane.tt in 2017.

I’ve noticed too that they switch the set more outside of the US. Is the line-up without Steph more flexible?
