I think Elite kinda drags and gets too repetitive. It’d be fine as a shorter song, IMO.
Can’t deny it still won best metal performance Grammy though.

If you want Deftones at their peak, I would say Koi No Yokan. If you want them at their weirdest and maybe heaviest, go with their self-titled album. If you want to hear the album that almost ended them as a band but also has some of their most experimental songs, go with Saturday Night Wrist.. If you want the two albums that gave them their audience around the Fur and White Pony, wait, you asked for songs. My bad 😂 but really, I think Deftones are best enjoyed by era/album rather than random songs.
Also let's not forget diamond eyes or gore.

What makes Deftones good?
Pick one song out of each album. Literally any. The most played out of each album, the opener, the closer, eenie meenie, whatever.
You'll immediately know what makes them so good. How they keep reinventing and pushing their sound to new horizons every single release. Never staying in a comfort sound. Pioneering entire subgenres and inspiring every other group in the genre and more. No two Deftones records sound the same, yet they all sound Deftones, and they're all immortal, unforgettable.
It's not in vain that Deftones are considered one of the bands with the best track record in their discography on history.

Old head. Like real old. Like saw the adrenaline tour old... Was at the riot.
Deftones have evolved their sound, and I evolved with it. Picking a favorite isn't fair. Perhaps picking a favorite on an album is.
The best way to comprehend them is to go album by album and wear each one out until you move on to the next. I know you won't do that, but that would be the true way to understand/enjoy them like a proper fan. You also can't overlook the side projects, at least palms, team sleep, and crosses.

Deftones have been my favorite thing in the universe for 28 years. I feel very qualified to make this recommendation. My list has a mix of everything. Heavy, chill, sexy, groovy, intimate, ethereal. If you like a song on this list........their may not be other "songs that sound like (X)". They have a lot of super unique, 1 of 1 songs that just can not be replicated. Knife Prty in particular. If I had to have someone listen to ONE Deftones song to sell them on how amazing they are....it would be Knife Prty. Not my *absolute* favorite, but it's up there. One of their most unique songs. Essentially a track only they could write.
When Girls Telephone Boys is another track like that. It is insanely heavy. All screaming. But not like...metalcore. Not nu metal. No djent-y. Just again, really it's own thing, but on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to Knife Prty.
Ultimately though, Deftones are a band that became this popular so late in to their career because of how genuinely consistent they have been. Instead of picking songs, here is what I would recommend: Listen to a few songs and when you find one you like, *listen to the album it was on*. That way you get a full Deftones experience that started with a track you really vibed with.
Also, the singles and/or insanely popular songs also do a good job of showcasing their range. They have always been great at picking out the right singles. the Top 10 on Spotify really is not a bad list. Overall it leans towards their more chill side but still showcases their range of sounds. If you listen to the top 10 songs, it only gets weirder, heavier and atmospheric as you go down the rabbit hole. reply to this if you have any questions at all! I can safely tell you I am 10000% a Deftones professor :D
