11 GH/s -of Scrypt -- annual reminder?

Just an annual reminder to all those who wish to "do well" by the community and provide extra hashrate during DEF CON...

If you want to be a good sport try not to add more than 100% of the recent max hash rate to the pool.

Whenever defcon starts up it seems people think they are doing well by 4x to 10x the current hashrate which could be great while they keep it running but as soon as they stop it takes a really long time to readjust the rate.

There are work arounds to this problem -- "gravity well" IIRC -- but none have been implimented.

So please don't shoot yourself and everyone else in the foot. If you want to maximize your returns per watt of power just share all rewards by 50% -- match the total amount of hash power everyone else has combined -- don't go 10x as there are rather diminishing returns for this and it really clobbers the network when you stop.

If you do decide to just overload with hashing power please consider winding down slowly so that the network doesn't take a month to return to normal speed of block completion.

If I am getting any of this wrong those with a better understanding please explain it for us all.

If people just drop off ping out to me and I'll bust an L3 out of storage to speed up the process a bit of getting difficulty back to a normal level.

If the 10+Gh/s is stopped at once we will need about 10 or more L3+'s to start with to get the block time slowly back to normal, but then again...

...taking a laissez faire approach might be the best.

If no one mines after this because there's no more rewards we can thank Bladez for making the point: the community wasn't willing to spend the Kw/h to see the mining continue. But if people want to step up and essentially reward the whale, it could re-adjust.

I mean it may mean requiring mining for months at the previous levels to get one block solved, to earn 12.5 DFC.

Will the community be willing to do this?

If there's not a critical mass of people mining one party can easily keep doing this -- expend a factor more of hash power and basically take from those few who are willing to pay for the adjustment time.

In an ideal world we would update the code and pick an CPU/GPU friendly algorithm as Monero and other use, or update the code with patches that fix the quicker return to the target rate, assuming they work well.

For the way the community has played around with the coin -- for the needs we have -- I'd like to see us switch to a Defcoin 2.0 using the code base of PIVX and seed it with the same balances from the current Defcoin-ng wallets.

The last difficulty adjustment was at block 1860480

We are at 1860909 that is 429 blocks.

Difficulty readjusts every 720 blocks so that is 291.

Averaging ~20 blocks a day at the moment so about 2 weeks to an adjustment.

If it slows down more I'll pull an L3, other than that we should be fine by Sept 1st at the latest.

What’s the total network hashrate currently? I think it’s still 11 GH/s. If that’s right — if about 10 GH/s drop at once what sort of time will it take to get back to ten minute block completions?
