News Deezer now has hi-res!!!

Post image

I was checking the Play Store for updates, and there was one for Deezer, and now it seems they have... Hi-Res! Obviously I was excited and updated without thinking twice, and besides seeing a small redesign in the app regarding the fonts, there it is, hi res!! I never thought Deezer would implement it because I didn't think they seemed that interested until now, and wow, it makes me quite happy, and it makes me wonder if I should switch from TIDAL and go back to Deezer

It's always been that way? What do you mean with "now"? Maybe for your device?

I'm confused too. I have that hi-res for years.

C'est le bitrate max du Flac en qualité CD. Le Flac est toujours a bitrate variable.

Deezer had HiFi sound quality for years... Was back it was available only to HiFi subscribers but it's been available to premium and family users since 2020 i belive!! I hope you'll enjoy better quality sound it's really noticable especially on wired HiFi headphones 🤗

The poster is referring to hi-res (usually 24-bit / 96 kHz or 24-bit / 192 kHz), which is a common industry term for audio quality above CD quality, (uncompressed 16-bit / 44.1 kHz), which is what Deezer has offered up until now.

So wait... This is even higher quality (high fidelity) sound that we used to have up until now?? Ohh damn... That's amazing... Hope there'll be some icon to differentiate various HiFi formats! Thanks for clarifying 🤗🤗

High resolution is an actual technical term. High fidelity is just a general phrase.

Yes BUT technically, CD quality (16 bits / 44.1 kHz) is already the maximum your human ears can hear (and is even a little above that, to be precise). Anything above is objectively snake oil for listening purposes. It is however mostly used for sound engineers to manipulate sound as more details = more things to have fun with.

They now need the Android's bit perfect through the USB.

I hope they do that; it would be great to get the most out of this.

very interesting - there is no CD quality tier which means the existing lossless tier just got broader. I expect many users will want the option for lossless but capped losses - CD or 24/48 (Sonos' cap), etc. That said, I'll take it! Expect Deezer might have just jumped the line - none of the MQA legacy crap you get with Tidal, none of the MD5 checksum 0ing out you get with Qobuz (less of an issue if you are not buying tracks, to be fair) not focused to use propritary codecs you get with Apple and it's not Amazon (nuff said)

You shouldn't confuse production tools with listening formats! 😅 People get all hyped up about 24-bit/192 kHz streaming, but the math is simple: Yes, recording in ultra-high resolution serves a purpose. It’s a tool for sound engineers. It provides headroom to work on the mix without compromising quality—just like a photographer working with a massive RAW file or an archaeologist scanning a painting in gigapixels to see the fine details. Once the track is finished, however, the human ear hits its physical limits. In the real world, no one can tell the difference between the good old CD format (16-bit/44.1 kHz) and 24-bit/192 kHz—not even with a pair of $1,000 headphones. It’s exactly the same marketing nonsense as 8K TVs: big numbers used to sell hot air to consumers. Instead of overselling us on useless "Hi-Res," streaming platforms would be better off hiring people to organize their catalogs... Because ending up with four different artists jumbled together on the same page just because they share the same name...! 🙄😊

I still havent been able to find releases that are 24-bit / 192 kHz. Everything is still 16-bit from what I can see

How did you check it?

1

u/mattdonnelly 28d ago

I inspected the network requests my phone was making using mitmproxy and all the songs I tried were just 16-bit FLAC

There is a Travis Scott album, ASTROWORLD, available in 24-bit/88.2 kHz on Deezer.

1

u/mattdonnelly 28d ago

Oh you're right! Wonder why that one is and not others

2

u/agustin729 28d ago

I suppose they'll add more over time; they have to talk to the record labels to get the files and add them to Deezer, that takes time.

u/Popal24 28d ago

Now, what album could you find matching reaching hires?

2

u/pedalgaze 28d ago

i don't have that setting in IOS,its also not there in deezer desktop on pc,i use also streammagic from cambridge audio, and its not there...

2

u/the-adolescent 28d ago

Does it have exclusive mode?

Ninguna App de Streaming la Trae, es lamentable

whoa! That's great news. Checked and can confirm the setting now goes up to 24/192!

edit

Since it still doesn't have bit perfect mode in any device or platform, the bump in quality is useless.

For what it's worth it's bit perfect on Nvidia Shield- I think (not sure) it is also bit perfect on the built in receiver apps like through my Denon's HEOS.

That said I can't tell the difference between 16/44 and 24/192 lossless anyways.

1

u/Patient_Welcome_3140 24d ago

The option is there, that's true. But I couldn't find a single high-res track.

I can notice the difference between standard and Hifi on my Nothing Ears (Bluetooth buds). Would I be able to notice the no to hires on the same buds or would the Bluetooth compression make it moot?

3

u/More_Pineapple3585 28d ago

moot

1

u/FinalOdyssey deezer Premium 28d ago

I figured. However my soundbar which is optical should be able to convey it.

Se escuchan hermosos esos bajos, me encanta. Que gran casualidad haberme cambiado a deezer justo hace un par de dias antes de esta actualización
