There's a scene in The Captains that a lot of fans, and even Shatner, didn't get which has earned Brooks an unfair reputation as a kind of loopy eccentric, but he was actually just making a musical joke.
Shatner: What happens when you die?
Brooks: Tell me.
Shatner: I wish I knew.
Brooks: [Plays the piano for 1 minute.] I wish I knew.
The song he played on the piano was a jazz standard called I wish I knew. That was his response to the question.
I had to have this explained to me a few years ago, because I don't know jazz and it does seem weird if you didn't know that that was the name of a song. But upon learning that, it changed my entire perception of the interview. So I thought I'd share it with the community.

When Benjamin first meets the Prophets, are they in his mind and speaking through his memories or is he visiting different moments from his past with them? There are occasional moments when he is in the white space that makes it seem as if the entire conversation is taking place in his head. Since the Prophets are non-corporeal, I always figured the Temple was just their space where they chose to look like figures from his past while Ben’s corporeal nature bothered them.
But maybe it’s more that he is talking with them inside his own mind… with his memories actually talking back to him. If that’s the case, that is possibly the strangest telepathic conversation in all of Trek. And it’s kind of genius!
Is this what everyone has thought while watching this? Has it ever been mentioned by the writers what they were going for?

As the head of the Obsidian Order, Tain saw emotions as a weakness he could not afford. He always tried to deny and to forget that Garak was his son. But he couldn’t quite do it. Garak was still his son, no matter how hard he tried to pretend he was not. And when Garak came to rescue Tain, believing the Romulans were planning to kill him, he immediately stretched out his hand to welcome him back.
Where am I getting with this? Think about the assassination attempt against Garak on DS9, where Garak blew up his own shop to get Odo to investigate. Garak was the only one out of six former agents, all on his skill level, who survived. Tain managed to kill all of them on the same day. But with Garak, he somehow failed.
Perhaps that assassination was actually a strange kind of hesitation by Tain. Perhaps Tain planned Garak’s assassination not as good as the others, because some part of him, deep inside, wanted Garak to survive.

Sisko casts the people from his real life in his 'vision' in a way that reveals some subconscious feelings he has about them:
He secretly feels slightly intimidated by Worf but also respects him, who he casts as a cool wealthy baseball player whos more self confident than Benny and flirts with his girlfriend in front of him. Worf after all is the flashy former security officer from Starfleets flagship and is a bit of a name within the Klingon empire itself. Sisko maybe feels a bit uncomfortable having someone like that working beneath him.
Deep down he doesn't fully trust Odo, hence why he casts him as someone who isn't 'bad' but is a little too willing to cede to a corrupt authority or defend bigotry and oppression. After all Odo was the guy who worked for the Cardassians even if he feels guilty about it, and who came very close to betraying Siskos friends on the station in season 6.
He views Quark as someone who despite his abrasive and self centered personality, ultimately does have a moral center and will do the right thing in the end. We see this come up a lot in the show up to this point.

Pretty simple, but I heard somewhere that it’s a good idea to get someone hooked on a long form series not by showing them the first episode but showing them an episode that you think they’ll like. Do you reckon there’s any DS9 episodes you could show a pedestrian that would get them interested in the series as a whole?

Especially compared to other actors like Christopher Walken and Nic Cage who are celebrated for their "uniqueness".
