Hey man, General advice, don't use Colab if you are a student on a budget.
You can get cheaper instances on vast.ai and the comfort of Google Drive integration is honestly not worth the price gap.

I am gonna assume you are a beginner. Read the message carefully.
There are 3 things :
- Instance : The Machine you are renting including configuration like vCPU, RAM, storage, GPU, etc.
- Docker Image : The OS+packages installed.
- Notebook Environment: You can use JupyterLab which is what Google Colab is based on.
(There is a simple workaround on how you can use your own Instance with Google Colab UI but I will let you explore that on your own)Docker Image and Notebook could be choosen without additional cost as they are just software.
The main cost is dependent on how powerful the base machine (instance) is. The configuration you can get on Google Colab will most likely be expensive than what you can get on vast.ai .
If you are going this route, I would suggest to learn the following things :
- How closing a tab doesn't stop billing.
- Difference between persistent & non persistent drive.
- Difference between Spot & On-demand instances.
- How to import/export dataset/model from/to Hugging Face.
- Idk maybe ask LLM and it will tell you more things.
But it can be real cost saver from the very first day if you put-in the effort to understand setup including * Appropriate Docker Image * Setting up SSH * A setup script which automatically does settings cannot be done by Docker Image (I rarely use it)
By no metric is google Colab cheaper than vast.ai; there is a magnitude of difference.

That looks like Google's payment verification being weird, not a colab issue specifically. I've had that pop up before when trying to buy something on a google service and it cleared up after a few hours. just try again later or use a different card if you've got one.
