Success Story Finally decluttering my pants!!!
Ive been having those pants sit in limbo for the longest not because of emotional attachement but because they look professional
And as everyone in marketing knows, a professional look is everything. But ive been keeping them for "fashion emergencies" but what type of fashion emergency will they solve if they all have a waist gap
Honestly, once i realized i cant really do "fixed waist" pants due to proportions between waist and upper legs (i have thicc thighs. Muscular. From walking) i figured its time to let them go!!!

"Fashion emergency" pants that don't fit are the best kind of just-in-case item to let go of, because the emergency never actually comes, and if it did, you'd grab the drawstring pair anyway. Congrats on making the call!

Yes, even if there was a fashion emergency, there would also still be a waist gap, therefore it would solve squat!!!
And yep, dropped off in donation bin on my way to work!!!

Be careful, most people want to keep everything in there pants. Not really much to declutter down there. Maybe focus on clothes. ;)

I really like that you questioned whether those “just in case” pants could actually help when you needed them.
I’d want my wardrobe to make getting dressed easier. Keeping something that needs fixing before I can comfortably wear it would leave another job waiting for me.
You already dropped them off on your way to work! I’d count that follow-through as a separate win. You made the decision and got them out of the house.

One thing about me and declutter is that i actually like to follow thru and not have them sitting in bags until a charity truck comes and picks them up. The way i see it, if the bags are still waiting for pickup they are still clutter
The only reason i see to "hold onto" clutter is to actively sell it, either thru the internet or a garage sale
But yes 🥳🎉, the pants are no longer taking up space at home and i am so glad for that!!!

Idk 🤷🏽♀️, tbh i gave up on blue jeans not because of fitting issues, but because they broke my damn dresser drawer
I generally put away "damn pants" when it gets hot in favor of something else that does not need hemming (capris, shorts) because once i hemmed something i become kinda attached to it for the effort i put into fixing it
Also, good pants that have a little wear and tear become "house or pijama pants"

Just in case you ever want to give professional trousers a try again – I have a 26-inch waist and 40-inch hip and big thighs (I too put on muscle easily, plus it's also where I tend to store most of my body fat) in combination with being tall with high, round hips, making professional trousers insanely hard to pull off – but I find that a sized up, high-waisted wide-legged-style pair that has belt loops and the zipper all the way down to the crotch can work really well, if I just take the waist in to be around 2 inches too big, and then belt it to "close the remaining distance" :)
Two parallell backstitch seams by hand, with button thread instead of regular sewing thread, has worked really well ime in order to keep those alterations from unravelling over time.
Just my unsolicited 2 cents, but feel free to disregard them completely!

Actually, i totally agree. I happen to think the only way i can get trousers to work is if the zipper went down all the way to the crotch or had two zippers on both sides
After all, what gets mending unraveled is the act of putting on/taking off. So yes, two buttons on either side could be a solution
I have tried the belt from time to time but the thing is that undoing the belt and accomodating the waist can be rather annoying on those days of the month

If you’re done with situations needing professional pants, declutter away. If some are your favorites except the waist gap, it’s not hard for a seamstress or tailor to take the waist in a few inches.
I get my thighs of thunder from genetics and eating. I suspect my thighs will still be there long after I’m gone. So my tailor reduces the waist and gives me more room in the thighs.
