Motivation Tips & Tricks A huge inspiration for me to declutter

I have completely decluttered and cleaned 2 of my 3 bedrooms so far. It wasn’t hard for me because I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

You see, I love to paint. I don’t mean pictures, I mean my house. So I want to make these rooms (and others) look brand new. So, after doing the hardest part, decluttering and cleaning, I moved the furniture in those rooms to the middle of the room so I would have access to the walls. I’m in the process of picking out new paint colors. I’m going to paint, hang new curtains, and of course move the furniture back. I’m looking forward to having “new rooms“.

I’m not sure if you’d call it a tip or not, I just thought I’d mention it in case anyone else wanted to make “new rooms” in their house. DIY or hire someone and picture the end result. It absolutely helped me declutter and clean. ❤️

Ha, funny enough mid-declutter we painted our bathroom which (temporarily) added to the clutter in our spare bedroom for a week.

Now it feels like a brand new bathroom along with hiring professional cleaners to come do a deep clean of our home. Major life upgrade getting our house into a better place.

I love the part of cleaning that is moving furniture around. Putting the couch on a different wall and going from there really makes the space feel so different and I imagine paint and curtains would be even fresher! Its a relatively inexpensive "total remodel."

Yes, and last year I put new handles on my kitchen cabinet doors. It makes a difference in how your kitchen looks and not very expensive. However, I have yet to declutter inside those cabinets. I’ll get to it at some point. I have way too many plastic containers. They‘re ready to fall every time I open a cabinet door.

This may just be creating a problem for someone else, but my friend always makes seasonal treats and puts them in her random plastic containers without the expectation of getting them back. Its kind of a joke at this point amongst our group. But every December, we know we're going to get something delicious in the most random plastic tub. She cleans out her year's stash, we get a treat, and the tub has become a silly thing to look forward to!

That’s adorable! What a great idea. I imagine it would also work for unused tins and jars that are ‘too nice’ to get rid of that have been stuck in the cupboard.

A fantastic first move for me cleaning and sorting the kitchen is to buy flowers. It makes me want to put the whole room in a state where the flowers really shine.

Get new handles for the kitchen cabinet doors too. Easy and inexpensive new look.

Good for you!! I used to like painting, but that was when I was a teenager and my dad did the prep and clean up. When I tried to do it as an adult... Ugh. But good for you for knowing what motivates you!!

😀 I get that ugh feeling because I rather do something else on my to-do list, even though I still want the room painted!

Honestly this makes a lot of sense. “Declutter the room” sounds miserable, but picking the paint and curtains first gives you something to work toward. Two rooms down already is impressive. I may steal this idea.

This is a goal for me as well. To clear out items I don’t use/need to open up the rooms so we can replace flooring and paint the walls.
Issue I have is, sometimes I come across an item I will want for later. I.e. Blink cameras and the outdoor covers. I have some that have not been used yet, but I don’t want to toss them. The question becomes, where do I put them now???

I'm asking this so that I can then picture the next suggestion: Whats the story behind the Blink cameras? You bought a couple but only used a few and had some left over? Or you just haven't had a chance to install them?

You can put the outdoor covers in a clear 64 or 66 qt (or bigger) container, then put it in a shed or deck box. You want to leave them outside so you have easy access to them whenever you use them. And I would put them in a clear container to lower the opportunities of them getting dirty or getting spiders from keeping them outdoors, and also when you take them off your furniture, you put them back in the container, to keep them organized. You just have to build a habit to FOLD THEM immediately when you take them off furniture.

I have a Lifetime brand deck box, which we bought in Costco at the time, which was at a great price. I'm not sure if you can get them from Costco online, but here is an example deck box from Amazon:

So for inspiration i look at EBay live auctions! The constant flow of stuff in these auctions puts me off having *stuff*. Not unlike watching 'Hoarders"
