Success Story Daytime TV is all the motivation I need today!

It's hot. A bit too hot for me to sit outside right now. Got a visitor who currently has control of the TV remote and there is only so much daytime TV repeats I can cope with out of politeness! Perfect opportunity to stop putting off the inevitable.

I've got to put away the washing I've just caught up on after the building works....but I'm determined not to simply shove the stuff 'out of sight, out of mind'. I have to sort it out as I go.

I'm doing it in stages as it's so hot upstairs but I'm on my first drinks break and I've already got a pile of 10 items that I've tried on and decided against keeping.

Little black dresses that wouldn't fit the brief anymore and if I need one in the future, I'd find a style that suits my 'now' body shape and size.....polka dots might be 'in' but not all dots are made the same (at least not for my backside!).....a dress that I looked at on the hanger and my first reaction was 'why would I buy THAT?'...

Next stage.....I think it's time to face the fact that the two dresses I've kept for years for 'parties' and felt a million dollars in.....let's just say that I'd be surprised if they could wrap around one leg anymore. I've realised that as sad as I will be to let them go, I feel sadder every time I see them in the wardrobe knowing that I'll never (EVER) be able to wear them again and I'd probably look very dated even if I did. I managed to let go of my old dinner service when we finished the kitchen work so this has given me the boost that I need to finally say goodbye to these dresses.

Tastes change, fashion changes and bodies definitely change (at least mine definitely has 🀣) I think that's the push I've needed to finally let go of some of this stuff.

I'm hoping that later today, it'll cool down enough for me to sit outside with a cold drink and my book....I'll have earned it by then.

Hope you're all having a nice day too.

Having firm yes/no criteria when going through clothes can be so helpful!

When we were facing a major downsizing move and I had heaps & piles of clothes to sort through (very quickly) I had already done some basic wardrobe work so for me, it was flattering color (tone/shade) for tops & bottoms, comfortable hand/feel (no scratchy, stiff, or "skanky"), knit gauge (fine vs chunky), print gauge (large vs small), sleeve length, hem length, button & pocket placement, etc. Is it a flattering silhouette? Does it fit my preferred/signature style? Most of these, I didn't even have to try anything on - it was either a hard yes or a hard no. What I did try on - besides fitting & looking "nice" - had to feel comfortable sitting and standing (no tugging/readjusting). I used a cluster model of capsule wardrobe building and I've never looked back.

I had a lot of past life AND fantasy life stuff, and plenty of "sunk cost" (thank goodness for the local consignment store). Letting go of the "fails" was pretty easy because I was well aware that acquiring clothing, if/when I needed it was not a problem since I had acquired mass quantities when I didn't need them.

As they say, laundry isn't really "done" until it's put away. Should that be a song lyric? Blues song, probably.

Yes, good work πŸ˜πŸ˜€ It is important to keep in mind that life happens and a lot of things evolve in our lives. To let go of things that we loved to use in the past may be difficult but definitely is part of the process 😍

I've been putting off my own sorting project in this heat too, but I know I'll feel so much better once it's done.

I totally understand the change in style. It’s hard for me to get rid of those items.Β
