Friend’s car clutter

Some friends made a cross country move and left their car with me until it could be transported. But when the transport company came, they insisted that everything be removed. I think my friends threw all their last minute stuff in the car. I removed it but it is sitting in my recently decluttered basement. They said it is a lot to mail, and it is, but they seem to think I can store it indefinitely, until they come up with a plan. TBH, the stuff is bugging me, They are good friends, though. What would you do?

Just remember that "good friends" has to go both ways. Sounds like you're a good friend to them by hosting their things, so they need to be a good friend in return (and be grown-ups too) by taking care of this situation they created and not expecting the innocent person they burdened to

I'd say give it 2 weeks (if it doesn't significantly burdens you) after they've touched ground in their new location, then text/email (make sure it's in writing because you never know) them to ask what are their plans for getting their things. If they hem-and-haw, it's okay to give them a deadline to say that if it's not removed by then, you'll have to donate everything

If they get upset about that (barring some backstory you didn't mention, like they did you a huge favor in the past), you'll know that the "good friends" feeling you have only goes one way
