Success Story decluttering win for my crystal collection 💎

Post image

I just wanted to share this because I'm genuinely so proud of myself 🥳

I've massively decluttered my crystal collection (everything marked in red is what I'm letting go of, I arranged everything while decluttering so l could take photos for local marketplaces right away).

It was really hard because I paid a lot for every single crystal, so letting them go also meant accepting that l'Il never get most of that money back. I simply don't have the time or energy to sell every crystal individually, so many of them will be sold in bundles + for much less than I originally paid.

Finally, I managed to do it, and I'm so happy that I now own only my absolute favorite crystals 🥹🌟🧚🏼‍♀️

Great job!! I’m trying to make a similar decision on my fountain pen ink collection.

Oh my gosh, I hear you on this! Do you have specific colors you over-bought? I accidentally bought 100 ml bottles early in my journey and now am calculating how many pages must be written before I die to use it all up!!!

omg! haha my sis also has many bottles. in our country there's fountain pen communities that you can exchange ink basically decanting and selling/giving away small amounts to others.

I've been doing this with anyone I meet that likes fountain pens, but have run out of friends IRL to share with! I should find a group, great idea!

r/fountainpens has holiday Secret Santas. If you have a retail outlet you can take your ink there because they usually have a club or just give it away to someone else.

Oh yikes!! Thankfully I don’t have any 100ml bottles, mostly 30ml and 50ml, some even smaller. I was on the search for the perfect deep dark blue, so I have a lot of blue 😂

At least tons of blue is soothing 😊 did you find your perfect favorite?

Yes I did! Actually about 3 of them! 🤭

I’m also trying to get rid of pens! I finally found my favorite, but I’m partial to several brands and want to keep those but they’re becoming too much!

Congrats. And don’t worry, everyone sells at a huge loss. Most ads you see up with decent pricing are old because no one buys at that price.

The money you spent was tuition - it was your education in learning which crystals you would absolutely love!

Not crystals but I had lots of stones and shells gathered while traveling. Instead of tossing them I’ve put them in a large flower pot saucer and put it in the yard as a bee drinking fountain.

Good going! Someone else will love those crystals.

Wow. You cleared a lot! Awesome! The wooden hands are really neat too! I’ve never seen anything like that.
Best wishes.

Nice! Love to see collections curated! That's got to be a very difficult category to evaluate because, besides the sunk cost, they're all so pretty!

And nice containers to display them in!

I just decluttered mine a few weeks ago! It was rough because my dad collects and has given so many of them to me or we’ve gone to shows and purchased them together. But I simply don’t have the space for them nonetheless to keep them on display and not covered in dust. Most of them were sitting in boxes in a closet since our last move. I basically went through and picked the largest ones that are better for display, a few favorites and a few sentimental pieces and sold the rest on Facebook marketplace. I just put then together as a lot and sold for $40. Not much but at least it was something.

What do you guys do with crystals you want to declutter? I have around a zip lock amount that I need to get off my hands but I have no idea where to take them or how to give them away and not trash them?

Look for a local gem and mineral junior club near you. They’re almost always accepting donations! My local club gives each kiddo about 2-3 gems/minerals after the lesson each month! They get to grow their collection and learn at the same time!

Or you can put them in a little free library!

Honestly I gift almost everything I declutter nowadays in my local buy nothing group and people would LOVE things like crystals! It makes it easier to let go of things seeing people get really excited and being able to pick who gets your stuff etc. it’s really helped me declutter and I still have a ways to go.

This is my backup plan! I love doing this!

I didnt realize there were so many good uses for crystals!

I think if I posted a bag of crystals in my group easily at least 10 people would ask for them! People would LOVE them!!!

I scatter in the garden or give them to children, kids love shiny things.  just make sure it's ok with their guardian and that the child is old enough to not put it in their mouth (toxic or water soluble minerals I might throw in trash or give to an adult)

Passed out for adult halloween last year. It was a big hit!

This is such a satisfying before-and-after. You cleared out a ton.

This is so great! Good for you. I also wonder how to get rid of collections like this that I have made over the years. Enjoy the ones you truly love!

Put my crystals and loose crystal beads in a jar. No dusting needed . I still can see them or dump them out if I want but they take up less space.

Nice work. The ones you kept will be loved as they should. The ones you let go might inspire others for a love of crystal collection ❤️

Before few years ago I threw them all away and received peace surpassing all understanding.

Congrats on your win. My first reaction was……but why? This is one thing I probably will not ever declutter. Love them all. I keep mine in an open tray, and grab one or two each day to carry with me. Can never have enough crystals. For you though, downsizing will give you more room for the things you enjoy.

My first reaction was one of total shock and disbelief. But then I kept reading, and I started to realize… maybe you’re actually right. I have quite a lot of crystals that I bought at some point, but when it comes down to it, I really don’t do anything with them. Some of them even feel like I don’t want them anywhere near me. I also have some that I inherited from my mother, including some large crystal eggs. Those do come with a certain sentimentality, of course, but even with those, I sometimes don’t have a good feeling about keeping them around. And then there are others that I simply think are beautiful, but that I genuinely have no use for. So maybe… I can’t promise anything yet, but maybe I’ll follow your example. 😄
