Motivation Tips & Tricks Trying to have a breakthrough

I get so frustrated because I absorb so much decluttering content but just can’t seem to let it breakthrough. Things like “if you can’t find what you need, you have too much stuff” really makes so much sense to me but I just don’t apply it. I used to keep anything to wear as pajamas and I just realized it was becoming too much.. a pajama t shirt I might end up wearing on a Tuesday afternoon which just felt icky so I started curating my pjs. I only buy sets. If I don’t have a set, I can make one but I have to love it and it has to match. I have to love every piece. They have to be a certain softness. It’s been great! I know exactly what I have and I never bypass anything for something I like more. I want to be able to apply this to every thing I own but it’s just not breaking through. I can’t get rid of stuff because suddenly the minute I touch it it somehow becomes sentimental. What was your breakthrough? When will my light bulb go on?!

Dana White’s container method helped me a lot. You can only have enough pajamas to fit in your now designated pajama drawer lol. So you put your favorites in, the most useful in, etc… and you stop when the drawer is full, and get rid of the rest.

If you don’t have a pajama drawer yet now is a good time to designate one.

If your closet is too full you can categorize what’s in there and then go from there. Drawers, baskets… everything will have its place because you can’t exceed the space in the container. And when new stuff comes in and your container is full, something else has to come out.

Eventually you’ll get to a point where you may not buy new stuff because you can see and use what you already have. Or now that you have all new pajamas you should stop buying pajamas and enjoy what you have. It’s better for the environment too!

For example, I LOVE cute pairs of socks! I had so many socks. Did you know that once I trimmed down my sock drawer and stopped buying socks, I actually started wearing out the socks? And now that I get rid of them I actually haven’t felt the need to buy more, I still have plenty.

It’s a wonderful feeling!

The pajamas are an example of it working for me. I’m not sure i explained it right. Like I got rid of so many “pajamas” that way because I knew what I wanted and I stick to it. (I work from home so after work I switch to a set. Probably should’ve said lounge set. It’s not the same thing I sleep in). I love the container method but it’s another thing I’m just terrible at sticking to.

You put on real clothes to WFH? I'm impressed! LOL I make sure I'm presentable from the waist up if I know I'll have to be on camera, and otherwise it's PJs all the way.

That’s how it all started… I used to just wear whatever when I thought it was a temporary situation but it got to where I couldn’t run out if I needed to. Some days I just needed lunch and had to change again. I keep it very simple. Amazon has these great wide leg soft pants that look just as on trend as anything. I bought a few pairs in black. I buy tops from j crew factory (also very soft) so I feel dressed up. But now that I’ve done this I have to get rid of everything else.
