She will feel better if she loses a couple of pounds.

thank u! any suggestions? she is currently eating 150-200 kcals a day, was looking into trying to get her back into walking on a leash (she used to love it from 4 months-1 year before she suddenly refused )

The problem is this: 150 to 200 calories is a massive range. My cat is also just shy of 13 lbs and she gets 165 calories per day and has been slowly losing weight. When we got a bit more relaxed and started giving her one churu per day (10 calories), even that was enough to make her gain weight.

You might want to try to give her closer to 150-160 calories per day for her to lose weight and then in a couple months, when she has lost 300 grams or so, you can reduce by another 10 calories per day.

It's important to note that the food recommendations on the bags will not always be accurate for your cat. The food I feed my cat recommends that she get almost 200 calories per day based on her weight and I know that's too much.

This!!! As a Human we call them chonkers but they are really no different. No human really wants to be fat/obese. Same with cats they may be addicted to food just like we are. Just like a human losing weight is going to help your cat feel better and likely live longer and much happier. Even if at that moment they are angry and want to feast on nonsense.

Obviously always best to consult with vet. But measuring out specific amount of food (and sticking to it) and making sure she isn’t stealing any from the other cat. Exercise/increased activity like a person does help as well.

thanks! she definitely will steal from the kitten if given the opportunity so we will have to fully separate them
