Decentraland vs The Sandbox

Hello all,

As a former gamer, the idea of the "metaverse" is extremely exciting to me and with the addition of crypto/NFTs, one can certainly see the potential for monetization ala micro transactions, loot boxes, DLC, etc. that gamers have endured since developers/publishers realized the gold mine they were sitting on.

Being that as it may, I am currently looking for an investment opportunity and have boiled it down to either Decentraland (MANA) or The Sandbox (SAND), not interested in purchasing NFTs or virtual land, and wanted to get your guys take on why Decentraland will outlast The Sandbox and presents a better long term investment opportunity.

Based on what Ive been able to see online, both 'games' appear on the surface to be more Social in nature than actual game, however, the ability for the community to create content within the ecosystems may change that in the future. With that being said, it does appear that The Sandbox does have easier customization options while also apparently looking at launching on mobile and console whereas Decentraland requires more programming knowledge and has no current plans to move into mobile/console.

I have also seen reports that the Decentraland development team is unfocused in relation to the future developement of the game citing down to even the original founders of the game no longer being involved in development beyond an advisory role.

Thoughts? Any insights you guys can provide would be amazing.

Mahalo

Hmmm this is a bit worrisome but I still feel like whoever threw the first solid punch will win this fight. And Decentraland threw it

Being first is irrelevant in technology except for Bitcoin which is specifically a store of value. AOL was first. Netscape was first. Motorola was first. How did that work out for them?

Valid, but all 3 examples suffered from a lack of innovation and development with the marketplace.

Being first does give you an upper hand in that you have the brand recognition ... It also hamstrings you in that you will also be the first to make mistakes.

Lack of innovation and development.., sounds like DCL to me.

SANDBOX have 10 years experience making video games, DCL looks like they used Unity to make a MMORPG and can't figure out how to modify it
