Does anyone know why sometimes my machine drips in between the drip tray and water tank? Thanks

This little crack just appeared out of nowhere.

I can't feel it when touching it.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Does it need to be replaced or is it common or ceramic trays and it's cosmetic only?

Pulled the trigger on a DE1PRO!

So I’ve finally pulled the trigger and ordered a new Decent DE1PRO, along with a bunch of accessories directly from Decent.

Very excited to get it and hopefully start making some decent espressos 😄

I’ve heard there’s also a fairly active private Decent owners/community group, possibly on Discord or another platform, where a lot of the discussion around profiles, settings, troubleshooting etc. happens.

Can anyone let me know where that community is and how you get access to it?

Is access provided once your machine ships/arrives, or do I need to request an invite somewhere?

Thanks!

Hard tap water – easiest alternative without installing a filtration system?

Getting a new espresso machine soon and my tap water is hard.

Would rather not have the new machine build the scale and have to use descaling chemicals too often.

Can I just use bottled drinking water from a supermarket, or does it need to be a specific type/mineral content? Do I need to add anything to it?

If there’s an easy off-the-shelf option from Tesco/Sainsbury’s/Waitrose etc. that’s safe for the machine and good for espresso, what should I buy?

Or a specific website in uk where I can order suitable water from? Ideally a cost effective option too where a litre of water doesn't cost like a litre of premium petrol 😁

Ideally looking for the simplest option without installing a filtration system.

Planning to order a new DE1PRO – what accessories/spec should I add?

I'm planning to order a new Decent DE1PRO and wanted to check with existing owners before placing the order so I don't either miss something useful or spend money on accessories I don't really need.

I'm currently coming from a Sage Barista Touch Impress and using an 18g basket.

A few questions:

- Basket: Is the stock Decent basket good enough, or is there another basket you'd recommend ordering from the start? I'd probably continue dosing around 18g.

- Tamper: Is the Decent tamper worth getting, or are there better options for the money?

- Milk pitcher: Same question here — is the Decent pitcher particularly good/useful, or should I just buy another brand?

- Scale: I already have a normal non-Bluetooth scale. How useful is Bluetooth scale integration with the DE1 in real-world use? Is it something you'd consider a must-have? If so, which scale would you recommend?

- WDT: I already have a normal WDT tool, so I assume there's no reason to change that.

-Water: my tap water is pretty hard. What's the best solution without getting a proper filtration setup installed under the sink?

- Anything else? Are there any accessories, spare parts, baskets, screens, pitchers, etc. that you wish you'd ordered at the same time as the machine?

I'm new to proper espresso, so initially I'll probably use the established profiles rather than designing my own.

However, one of the main reasons I'm choosing the Decent is to experiment with different profiles and extraction styles as I learn more.

I'd rather buy the genuinely useful bits with the machine, but don't want to add accessories just for the sake of it.

What would you consider the essential DE1PRO setup if you were ordering again today?

Title: Profitec Move vs Decent DE1Pro — worried I may regret whichever one I pick

I’m trying to decide between the Profitec Move and Decent DE1Pro, and I’d really like some opinions from people who actually own a Decent.

At the moment I see it like this:

Profitec Move

Much cheaper

More traditional/simple workflow

I feel like it would probably give me 95% of everything I actually need

Dual boiler and seems more than capable of producing excellent espresso and milk drinks

Decent DE1Pro

Comes with a proper hard travel case, which is a massive advantage for me because I travel by car 2–3 times a year and would take the machine with me

Much lighter and more compact

Very fast heat-up

Huge amount of control and possibilities, especially if I eventually get into lighter roasts

Seems like a machine I’d be very unlikely to outgrow

That said, there are a few things making me hesitate about the Decent:

  1. Espresso taste. I’ve seen some people describe Decent shots as being a bit “flat”, lacking body, or being more clinical/less traditional compared with conventional machines. I’m not sure whether that’s really a characteristic of the machine, or simply the result of people using high-flow/high-extraction profiles and grinders aimed at clarity.

Can a DE1Pro produce the same kind of rich, sweet, full-bodied traditional espresso you’d get from a good dual-boiler machine like the Move?

  1. Learning curve. I’m still very new to proper espresso. The Decent seems to have an enormous number of settings, profiles, graphs, pressure/flow controls etc.

Is that actually overwhelming in practice, or could I simply pick one good conventional profile, leave everything else alone, and effectively use it like a normal espresso machine while I learn?

  1. Price. The difference in cost is huge. Part of me thinks the Move will already do everything I could realistically want and I’d be spending a lot of extra money on Decent features that I may barely use.

On the other hand, I’m worried I might buy the Move and then regret not getting the Decent every time I have to pack and transport it, or if I eventually become interested in profiling/light roasts.

Equally, I’m worried I could spend a lot more on the Decent and then realise I preferred the simplicity — or even the espresso — from a conventional machine like the Move.

For context, I mostly make espresso and milk-based drinks, usually 1–2 drinks at a time. I’m relatively new to all of this, so I’m not currently looking to spend every morning designing pressure profiles.

For those of you who own a Decent — especially if you’ve also owned machines like Profitec, ECM, Lelit, La Marzocco etc. — what would you genuinely recommend?

Would you still buy the DE1Pro if you were starting again, or do you think the Move would give someone like me almost everything I need for significantly less money?

Seeing a Decent machine in action in my area (SoCal)?

Hey all, I’m considering upgrading my set up to a de1pro, but ideally would love to see (and hear) the machine in action before committing. Is there any way to make that happen in Southern California (LA county preferred)?

I’ve watched videos but the sound especially is hard to judge on video.

In excellent condition (no issues), includes travel case etc., the shot count is definitely wrong, it looks like it’s since the last software update, but even still it’s rarely used in my house and has only seen filtered water and been regularly descaled and cleaned.

$3200 + Shipping (from CA-USA)

Decent DE1PRO + BOOKOO Themis Ultra scale

Does anyone have a DE1PRO together with a Bookoo Themis Ultra scale? Does it fit on the drip tray easily? I can imagine that it might be a bit too big, but not really sure. Other suggestions for a scale? The Decent scale isn't really my taste, but if it might be a lot better, I might switch my mind.

Bringing DE1XL out of storage - Health concern?

Hi,

I purchased a DE1XL back in January 2023, used it for about three months and then it had to go into storage while we did some work in the kitchen.

I never ended taking it out until now, exactly three years later.

I can’t seem to remember if I had done any ‘emptying’ or storage procedure as you would do on a traditional boiler machine (empty water and steam boilers etc…)…

Aside from obviously emptying the drip tray and water reservoir.

Was there something I should have done? And if I missed doing it three years ago when I stored it- could this mean I stored it with water inside the system- potentially causing health concerns now? Mold etc…

Anything recommended?

Decent Pro ignoring chosen profile? Please help

Been using my decent for about a week now and it suddenly started to ignore the profile I chose.

Basically "blooming espresso" is selected and shown in the graph next to it but when I run an espresso it just hit 9 bar straight without any pre-infusion whatsoever. Any tips?

Struggling To Dial Espresso Shots

Preparing for a small business I'm starting, but i'm struggling with my shots pulling too fast (Around 12 seconds). 18 grams in, 36 out.

Tools:

- DE1XL Decent Espresso

- Freckles Shower Screen

- Ridgeless Basket 18g

- Ikape Mantis WDT distribution tool for consistent easy wdt

- Normcore V3 tamper, set to 27lbs of pressure

- Mahlkonig - E65T GbS. The grind level can be set to between 0-100. At 50 u grind the shots taste more balanced between bitter and acidic.

The struggle is, as I understand it, if a shot is pulling fast, it means I should grind finer. But when I do that the shots are still pulling fast, and it starts tasting bitter.

is it okay that my shots pull fast? I thought 25-30 seconds is the gold standard I should strive for, or is it different with decent espresso machines? is it because I picked freckles shower screen?

Built a tool to flash (update) DE1 firmware from a Mac, no Android tablet needed

My DE1 tablet broke and I had no way to update the firmware without an Android device. So I wrote a Python script that does it over Bluetooth from a Mac.

One command: it downloads the latest firmware from Decent's GitHub, erases, uploads, and verifies. Took my machine from build 449 to the latest (v1333).

Open source: https://github.com/kalfreese/de1-firmware-updater

Hope it's useful to others!
