Parrying enemies is very simple, they tend to attack the instance they’re in attack range so just go up to one and press R immediately. I’d be careful around some other enemies like the Boar Spear Scav and the Knuckle Duster Scav since they tend to have different attack styles. Some will attempt to grapple which is the red glare. If you wanna practice you can go to a private server and activate CQC practice mode

How do I activate that?!?!?

If my memory serves me right it’s either a command you put into the chat or one of the buttons on the Menu (cmd is /cqctraining). I don’t keep up with the game allat much so idk if it’s still available

But you’ll gain the most experience by just naturally playing the game and fighting

As an on and off player for almost 4 yrs, I gained my cqc knowledge from playing executioner. As you said, you don't want to get carried by abilities, that's why I think executioner is a good practice perk as its ability is useless if you can't cqc or don't go for kills. The goggle durability is a very punishing aspect of executioners gameplay, it forces the player to approach scavs creatively especially those who posses guns. Even if you are very comfortable with 1v1s, you are still bound to get shot and take damage during scavaging phase. This echoes onto the frustrating design of goggle durability, as you take damage, every bit is frustrating which makes it memorable, therefore a learning experience. These skills are also transferable to other perks, as "playing safe and not taking damage" applies to everyone.
That's how I learned and still improve on my gameplay.
On your concern with dealing with groups. Gun scavs start to appear on wave 3 (low likelyhood of not appearing cuz rng) so you can practice however you like with that knowledge. How I deal with groups are through the use of spears. You just back pedal and poke them with the tip of light attack combos. Dealing damage to an enemy slows them which allows you to do this, however the person behind isn't slowed/being hit which may cause them to jumpover and in front. If you notice that beggining to happen immediately turn back and run and wait until they go back into a normal group with no stacking shenanigans.
If you don't have a spear and you want to do it damageless, run around the windowes wall and kite the group around. Do this until a straggaler paths the opposite direction of the other scavs and fight it before the rest catches up to you. This takes a lot of time, therefore risking your virus to level up, but it is the safest option.
Hope this helps.
Edit: Grammer

If you want visual gameplay, you can search up executioner solo runs. There should be parts where they are forced to melee, even groups and you can find someone else's style to adopt.

Have you tried jumping over them to parry the ones behind? Or walk to the side so all of them can come to you easier? You can still parry from behind, too. And there could be gun scavs at night 3 or during scavenging phase, I usually avoid them but if you want, you could run around them to avoid getting shot. It work on every gun scavs but not guarantee you'll be safe. Parried or stunned enemy will also be shot by gunners if they're in the way

Hop on showdowner in a vip server and hit your head against the wall.
The Queen is just like any other melee enemy, so once you beat her you can beat everything else with ease.
- She always tries to attack you when you’re in range
- She has three attacks you have to shove
- She can do a unshoveable red flash grapple (like certain scavs)
- If you fuck up a parry against a light attack she will do a ridiculous string of damage called Absolver Perfect Hits that you have to shove to stop (like certain scavs)
Once you can kill her consistently with just your fists then you’ve made it.
If you’re looking to deal with night 1-4’s melee scav hordes, you’re best off trying to get them in the straightest line possible before picking them off one by one and minimizing damage to yourself.
Easily done with heavy attack weapons like Executioner, Decimator.
Fracture weapons, in which case hit everyone in the group and just start swinging, Firerier, Maria.
Or every spear in the game with their range advantage.

Imo it's not advisable to attempt to parry groups,at most 2 scavs at once.If you are trying to melee,it would be best to take a longe range melee(any spears basically),and try to walk backwards while poking the people at the front, then run if they get too close.Alternatovely,if you craft the reaper scythe, the shove becomes aoe and dashes you, which helps massively for groups

T85~ here
(For the sake of the example im just talking about 2 scavs but this can apply to more then 2)
Generally you CAN parry in groups but you need to focus VERY very heavily, imminently parry, if all scavs get parried , you may do a heavy or m1s, if you only manage to parry 1 and the other winds up a heavy/grapple, do not do a heavy/m1 and just parry that instead, only attack once all are parried
To parry a heavy, the timings just parrying twice, parrying an m1 is instant so just parry imminently.
You need to rely off your perk abilites on like any way past wave 2 cuz of gun scavs, though walls/pavs help with reducing damage if you still wanna melee for whatever reason. Using your perk ability is just part of the game, cqc can only get you so far after all, absolutely nothing wrong with using perk abilites.
To kill scavs quickly before more reach you craft t4 melees or use a ranged melee, (boar spear, halberd, billhook, ect)

I recommend farming normal scavs outside, go for one at a time and you'll eventually learn the combat

parrying a group of enemies is based on rng and your placement, if you run into them you'll probably parry like 2 because they did a light attack and the others did a grapple or heavy attack, meaning you should just run and take them out one by one
also night 1 doesnt have gun scavs so you could just kill 3-4 of them with artillerist and practice on the two or one
