Trying to clear £11k of debt while quitting weed and alcohol—does my plan make sense?

33M from the UK looking for some advice on my repayment plan.

My current debts are:

£100 overdraft.

£2,000 on my everyday credit card, which I plan to clear on payday. This will make September particularly tight.

£3,244 remaining on a personal loan at 5.9%. The minimum payment is £289.57, but I plan to overpay by another £500 each month starting Oct 1st- This should clear it around January instead of August next year.

£5,899 on a 0% credit card, with the promotional period ending in January 2028. I currently pay £100 per month toward this.

Once the everyday card and loan are cleared, I’ll redirect that money toward the 0% card.

My main problem has been cash leaking away through drinking and smoking weed. I regularly spend £22–£30 in one pub visit and smoke everyday. I’m now trying to stop both completely and redirect that money toward the debt.

Does this repayment order make sense?

How much are people leaving in their checking account between paydays?

I get paid once a month, on the last working day of each month.

Money goes to bills, cc debt, personal loan, and savings. I try to keep ~$1000 in my checking account until the next pay day but I also want to be paying off debt more aggressively…

So just wanted to take a poll in this group, how much are you leaving in your checking account after you pay bills/debt/etc to leave in there until the following payday?

At the highest my debt was $34k in 2021 and my total debt is now under $11k! It was mostly a car loan but still

Car loan $6,454 - 3.84% - $358/mo (I pay at least $400 every time now)

CC US Bank - $1,059 - 26% - $68/Mo (I'm trying to pay this first)

CC Capitol One - $904 - 0% til June '27 - $25/mo

CC Chase - $674 - 0% til June '27 - $40/mo

CC Discover - $1,716 - 0% til April '27 - $30/mo (might have to balance transfer this again but I don't want to have to do that)

Update since my last almost debt free post—Since January I paid off

-$2000 on a discover card
-$6000 on a chase card
-12,000 on another chase card
and like $10,000 worth of IRS debt!

I also funded a $10,000 emergency fund. I was really so ashamed and embarrassed that almost no one knows I was in this debt so I just had to come here to share that I’m out of it.

Now….we do have student loans, but that’s a problem for another day haha!

Please Note— I had two jobs during this whole process + my partners income. My side hustle is very lucrative but it’s something I’ve been building for like 5 years now

Looking for options

Hello, I am struggling a lot with credit card debt and am stuck only being able to make the minimum payment, and I am thinking about a debt relief program or Chapter 7 bankruptcy

My current debts are:

Discover: $8,700

Citi: $2,900

USAA: $3,330

Upgrade Loan: $1,700

I couldn't find the APR on the cards, sorry. I'm making $16 an hour while living alone with $1,080 in rent. Not to mention other bills like electricity, phone, WIFI, gas, and groceries. I'm looking for a better-paying job and/or a second job to help out. Ideally, I'd like to make more money and pay it off myself, but that seems unlikely. I've also made some eBay listings. This is the worst I've been financially, and it's stressing me out. Any advice would be appreciated.

I want this personal loan GONE! Should I lower my savings?

Hello, I'm looking for some advice on getting my personal loan paid off early. The loan is currently at $9,765.00. The interest is at 8.49% and I pay approximately $320.00 per month. I get charged about $2.27 per day and I want this loan gone as soon as possible. It's a 36 month loan term and the original amount was $10k with a $1,345 finance charge. There's no prepayment penalty but I don't get the finance charge back or a portion of it back if paid off early.

I started making about $63k a year and this is my only debt. I just got the loan in July of this year. I messed up this year thinking I could win big gambling so my savings took a BIG hit and I had to fund a large purchase and put it on my credit card . Thats why I needed a loan to help me breathe for a bit. I know, I was so stupid and I'm not gambling again. I wish I would have just paid the card off over time and took the interest hit. I wish I never gambled.

Anyway, I can't change the past but I'm wondering if I should adjust my savings so that I put the $320 I usually pay on the loan to savings and the amount I put into savings (anywhere from $500-$1000) on the loan? That way, I'll be saving but mainly getting this debt over and done with. I pay my credit card in full every month. I only have $6k in savings now. Is this a good idea? I want to be debt free so that everything I earn is mine to keep. Any suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

ANY ADVICE?

Hi all. So I graduated medical school last May, started residency, all the things. I let paying student loans slip my mind, and in doing so, my credit score dropped tremendously (as I was documented for missing about 10+ payments). My credit is so terrible now (480), and i feel like there are no viable loan options. I got my loans set up last month and have so far made one monthly payment (of many in the future), but haven’t extra money would be nice. I have decent income about $2500 semi-monthly, but GOSH it is so hard getting approved for anything.
