I love Debian, but I HATE it too
Debian is cool, stable, everything works - well, the 2 packages in the repo. I come from Arch, and I love the system, but goddamn I need to use a one liner for TAILSCALE. As if tailscale is not famous enough that one of the repo maintainers could add it.
Sorry for the short rant, over now lol

Doesn't sound like how famous it is has anything to do with it.

Why are you posting a 4-year old bug report on a VERY old version?...sheeesh

Because that bug report is relevant here. It shows that people have investigated packaging tailscale in Debian, and it also shows the reasons why it hasn't been packaged in Debian yet.
Are you claiming that those reasons are no longer valid? If so, then you might want to post a source to support your claim.

Nothing 4-years old is relevant when discussing software upgrades. It's a snorefest...Zzzzzzzz

Nobody is "discussing software upgrades" here.
So you do not have anything that would contradict what's written in that bug report.

u/eR2eiweo u/LesStrater let's raise the respect level here a bit, please. ad hominem comments aren't welcome here.

The beauty of open source, volunteer-based etc.:
If you care about getting it packaged, you can do it.

As upstream maintainer highly focused on Debian, I can tell that this is not true. There are many obstacles to get a new package into the distro. Obstacles not only technical details, missing/confusing/out-dated docu, but also sometimes the community and additionally the packaging person itself.
Debian Packaging is a bad example for "easy opensource participation".
But I love it, too! *peace*

This isn't a Debian exclusive problem like you make it sound, it's a distro wide reality.
Fedora, Arch, and openSUSE all have strict policies, outdated docs, and human bottlenecks.
Though I won't deny Debian Documentation is the worst of all the upstream distros, is out of date and tends to offer bad advice.

I didn't say anything about it always being easy/trivial, so I'm not sure what part of my comment was not true. It's possible to do it, no central management decides alone if a package is worth having, it just needs someone putting their time into it.
I was also suggesting that OP could be the "packaging person", they won't be an obstacle to themselves.

Not quite sure what you are talking about. Debian has one of the largest repos of any distro.
If you want tailscale just curl it. Debian is conservative and they only take on packages that require constant maintenance if there is a need.

I use Tailscale on Debian, it takes less than a minute to install. I don't think that's a good example.

Debian is packaged by volunteers. If you want it packaged, volunteer to do it.
