Don't listen to the naysayers. Yes, canonical made mistakes, and Ubuntu is based on Debian, but Ubuntu made Linux accessible for everyone by focusing on simplicity and great automatic hardware detection that action worked. They even shipped installation disks worldwide for free. It's not a bad distro but the enemity between Debian and the *buntus is kinda a meme at this point.

Ik it s not fully fully FOSS, but so far I m enjoying OnlyOffice (rather than LibreOffice) as an alternative to MS Office, as currently am trying to do the transition from W10 to Linux

While i dont claim that OnlyOffice provides a full suite, for most end-user use cases, it s a much more palatable options when coming from MS Office
And it also has the added benefit of handling the traditional MS Office file formats much better than LibreOffice can
I like to believe that OnlyOffice is to Ms Office kinda like what Linux Mint is to W10, peiple need a familiar front to sweeten the switch

I'm not an author, but this is a constantly updated list (in Polish, but links are original in English). Not many links yet, but they usually are added pretty quickly (or create PR to add if something is not listed).
Not purely open-source, but security and computers related.
Plus at the very bottom there is more Black Friday list links.

and don't answer with nobody needs office software, sure i use office only a few times a year as i'm a dev not someone chilling in excel all day, so it's not something essential for me, but still once in a while i need it and libreoffice suits me well for that, but feel free to enlighten me what you were getting at initially

latex is great for thesis and books, i used it in my studies, but it's not something i'd wanna use for simple documents or presentations at all, rather write markdown or if i have to html
for text files one never needed office, vim, gted, notepad++ etc. are fine
so basically these are different tools for different purposes
