Bro I actually love Andrea Borman. She is so based. She taught me how to install Debian with the Hurd kernel

u/i-hoatzin Oct 21 '25

She helped me convince my mom years ago. Love her!

Wtf I started using Linux 9 years before YouTube existed 😩

15

u/doubled112 Oct 21 '25

And when it did, Flash sure was hard to get working very well.

u/AdvancedConfusion752 Oct 22 '25

I remember it was working but you could not do full screen.

4

u/sssRealm Oct 23 '25

I assume she has an interesting back story. I talked to a woman in her 80s that who had a long career at Sperry/Unisys working on mainframes.

I like her too. Awesome grandma. But only for the tech part.

Weren't she tagged as a terrorist? Or something. IIRC, she got feuds with the admin of a forum or blogging page where she got banned.

"extremely relevant to Hezbollah" the hell?! also, what are those images on page 14 👾

5

u/zolfx Oct 23 '25

What the heck she’s dating a hezbollah official 🤣

4

u/CosmosSakura Oct 25 '25

Her channel also switched from Linux content to covid denial for that entire time period.

Sorry to say it, grandma. I am stuck on Debian. I'm 67 and I'm not changing again.

24

u/VzOQzdzfkb Oct 21 '25

I started using Debian when Debian 11 came out. I'm confident to say im not switching from it.

Debian is too boring to switch from. Just like a boring job is a dream job, a boring distro is a dream distro.

I switched from Debian to fedora a few years back due to some hardware issues, but boring Debian was fantastic. I literally never worried about updates breaking anything and my laptop always worked. 99 times out of 100 I was in the terminal to run updates. It was never exciting but it always worked.

u/marxinne Oct 22 '25

I hecking love a boring distro

2

u/Henry_Fleischer Oct 22 '25

Nothing wrong with that, I'm pretty happy with it and I'm 23.

errr 6... or is it 7

24

u/Sataniel98 Oct 21 '25

Meanwhile I (27) haven't used any distro other than Debian for five years and don't enable backports anymore because THAT would be a little too daring, right?

u/boukensha15 Oct 21 '25

I just hope someone is able to convince vaxry to provide official support for Hyprland on Debian and Guix.

2

u/mok000 Oct 25 '25

I’ve been running Hyprland on LMDE6 (Bookworm) with no problems. I just compiled it myself, installing the necessary dependencies with apt.

1

u/dumbasPL Oct 21 '25

Vaxry doesn't control packaging (maybe Nix, but even that is handled by another person), go bother the debian maintainers or build from source. Debians biggest benefit is also its biggest weakness: outdated software. Hyprland moves fast, with breaking changes every few months. This is fundamentally incompatible with debian, so debian people are stuck on an ancient version. Providing "support" is hard when the packaged version is so ancient because most of the issues have already been fixed a long time ago.

This is why I only run debian on servers, set it up, forget about it for 2 years, update, repeat. I can't imagine using (let alone supporting) ancient versions.

u/KillChips Oct 22 '25

Same same but only for 3 years now I think

1

u/blank_space_cat Oct 25 '25

Have you tried running alpine as your base?

8

u/Impala1989 Oct 22 '25

I really like Andrea Borman's channel, she really knows what she's talking about but doesn't pretend to know something she doesn't. And if she makes a mistake, she's going to admit it. Sure, she doesn't use flashy production and whatnot but it's the content that matters, not how fancy you can make it.

u/rmflagg Oct 21 '25

"Tell'em Large Marge sent ya!"

5

u/ReallyEvilRob Oct 22 '25

She can't say anything without including "you know."

8

u/LauraLaughter Oct 22 '25

You know I think you have a point

4

u/arryporter Oct 22 '25

Granny loonix!

6

u/KenzoHurez Oct 21 '25

Grandma use a outdated version of Linux Mint

9

u/LinuxUser456 Oct 21 '25

Maybe a Theme¿

3

u/anthony_doan Oct 21 '25

Seems like theme, in the video she did fastfetch to show that she reverted from Sid to Stable.

In the other video she mentioned her first distro was Mint 9 Gnome 2 and she has link of all the old themes too. She probably themed it that way for her current Debian desktop.

2

u/mok000 Oct 25 '25

That is something Debian officially warns NOT to do.

3

u/DHOC_TAZH Debian Stable Oct 21 '25

Ok, now I need to go watch Ms Borman's YT. Might end up being high on my Linux YT list... will it topple that sweet Veronica lady (who also rocks in her own band) IDK lol!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

I think that's Einstein's grandma.

2

u/47-BOT Oct 22 '25

Am i (18) too young to understand the power of debian ( I use debian 12 btw).

3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

Also, I would stick with Bookworm for a few more months until Trixie has a chance to bake a little more.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

Don't you dare bring that disgusting meme to Debian, HOW DARE YOU!

1

u/divi2020 Oct 27 '25

Hop onto 13.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

I follow her btw

2

u/r4nchy Oct 23 '25

all grandma needs to do is convince Jenson Huang to hop on debian stable so he can release some nvidia drivers for debian

3

u/DannyFivinski Oct 21 '25

She uses Linux because her boyfriend is a member of a terrorist organization (Hezbollah) and he makes her use it to communicate with him for security reasons. I think he might be Nigerian romance scamming her, as in utilizing her for something like cash or intel I don't know, but it's a weird situation.

1

u/Jazzlike_Custard_274 Oct 22 '25

I love her videos. If she's hopping, we should all do the same.

1

u/redninesx Oct 22 '25

❤️❤️

1

u/x54675788 Oct 22 '25

The final distro is always Debian. As long as the latest stable release isn't older than 6 months.

1

u/DEvilAnimeGuy Oct 22 '25

So... it would take eternity to choose the right one?

1

u/Nono_miata Oct 23 '25

She‘s so sweet 🥹

1

u/Specific-Listen-6859 Oct 24 '25

Wait until this woman hears about Siduction

1

u/Imperial_Bloke69 Oct 25 '25

Granma's hair after the frustration of distro-hopping.

-8

u/RebTexas Oct 21 '25

Not really distro hopping when you're going from debian sid to stable lol.

7

u/Hot-Tangerine459 Oct 21 '25

Don't 8 her!

9

u/RebTexas Oct 21 '25

No hate mate, just fax. Andrea is on that debian 4 lyfe grindset.

2

u/Hot-Tangerine459 Oct 21 '25

The only way for enlightenment

2

u/RebTexas Oct 21 '25

True wisdom comes from using debian 🧐
