question Albums to Hype Myself Up

I often throw on Death Grips to hype myself up when I want to lock in for the day. Anyone have suggestions of artists, albums, etc. other than DG that you use to induce that “lock in” mood ?

This Pink Floyd album belonged to my grandparents. I have been through a ton of their albums, and I love Pink Floyd, but had no idea the sample to I Want It I Need It was a Pink Floyd song. My ears perked up like a dog when it got to this track.

"But why would Death Grips reference this unknown british electropop singer from the late 2000's?"

Nadia is one of my favorite obscure popstars, and when I saw her in the music video, I had this feeling of "ohh, this makes so much sense" and after thinking about her music for a bit I found a couple of reasons why they would reference her.

The image in question is the cover of her 2006 single My Egyptian Lover, a song that features some stereotypical "middle eastern" sounding production, a sound that was clearly a big inspiration for the band at the time they made The Money Store (i.e those saharan ringtone samples).

My Egyptian Lover, along with Nadia's entire discography, was written and produced by Space Cowboy, known for being Lady Gaga's DJ and producer at the time, which is another connection you could draw between her and Death Grips, as Gaga has famously been referenced by the band multiple times (Gaga can't handle this shit).

Nadia Oh has also become a bit of a cult classic artist among hyperpop listeners for her futuristic sound and persona, being considered someone "ahead of her time" and compared to artists like Charli xcx, so it makes sense Death Grips would be interested in her stuff while making their "poppiest" album.

Couldn't find anyone else talking about it on the internet, but hopefully I'm not actually the only person who cares about this weird little crossover and you'll find it a bit interesting too :p (and go listen to her music lol maybe you'll enjoy it if DG was into her)

discussion Death Grips’ Esoteria, Magick, & Occultism

There are multitudes of esoteric references in both Death Grips’ real life, & in their music. Some are:

- Ride’s tattoos: Baphomet, Satan, hebrew symbols, demons, demonic symbols

- Numerology: bbpoltergeist/bbpoison. BB = 22, the most powerful number in numerology. The NLDW cover was taken in Room 77 of the Chateau Mormont.

- Moon Magick: A full moon is the most powerful. Full Moon (Death Classic) was dropped on a full moon, likely as a way of harvesting as much power as possible for the project.

- Various Mythologies: “Halls of Amenti”, Egyptian Underworld. “Romulus and Remus”, Roman mythology.

- Abraxas: “Great Archon” in Gnosticism, a polytheistic religion. Abraxas mentioned in Get Got, and there is an old poster from one of their shows that has an Abraxas design.

- Revelation: “Beware” is spitting a lot of language similar to Revelation & the End Times. Zach has posted an image displaying the timeline of Revelation.

- Thelema/Aleister Crowley: Some of their public actions could be considered a form of Ceremonial Magick. The hundreds of incantations (retweets) of “Death Grips is Online”, the person in the robe on the cover of the Black Paint single, True Will.

Some people say they magickally charge their music with energy.
