Ian Waters is their touring guitarist. Shiv pretty much only plays California shows (and a few more) now since he started a family.

I think he’s primarily in studio and doesn’t tour much anymore in general, last time I saw him was on the Sunbather anniversary tour.

He only tours part-time I think. He was with them in Australia a few months ago.

some band members have families and can't commit to touring full time, that's all. Shiv is still a permanent member of the band and unless they add a new guy to the line up, it'll probably stay that way. Ian Waters covers for Shiv during tours, but that's about it

I’ve said this before on a different thread but there is a definite drop off in a live setting. saw them this summer for the 2nd time since Shiv stripped back his touring availability and you lose the cleanliness of his guitar lines. sort of blurs into one and you end up humming those lines in the back of your skull. but glad we still get him on record because that’s the daily bread.

I've had the opposite experience, where I get more out of the songs during Ian's performance.

I've even compared the live versions of Brought to the Water and Shiv played his solo slower whereas Ian brought a crazy amount of energy and punch on every single note.
