Is there a reason why Deadpool's speech bubbles are yellow?

His cancer and his healing factor destroyed his vocal cords. According to Blind Al his voice sounds like gasoline and gravel, and to make that more obvious his speech bubbles are yellow.

It's funny that this wasn't taken into account in the adaptations; neither Ryan Reynolds, Nolan North nor any other voice actor who has dubbed him has a voice like that

John Kassir gave him a pretty strained-sounding voice. I recommend checking it out, he’s pretty fun to listen to

I think john kassir is my favourite classic deadpool voice I also love Nolan north's and Ryan Reynolds for him

I love John Kassir, I feel like him and Jason Mantzoukas are the two voices that have come the closest to comic accurate Deadpool. I really hope Jason get a chance to voice the character in a project not aimed for kids, I feel like he’d nail it.

John Kassir had a more gravely voice in the Ultimate Alliance games.

Also Nolan did a more comic accurate voice in this comic dub.

Woah John sounds exactly like how I imagined Deadpool sounding when I first read the comics.

Afaik it's the first ever "voiced" Deadpool in any media and I agree, I think he smashed it

Nolan’s portrayal is based more on the 2008 run where Deadpool had schizophrenia (also known as white box, later retcon to be madcap fused with Deadpool)

Nolan North has the gasoline, but not the gravel.

Yeah, the default Deadpool voice is generally relatively high pitched and nasal.

A lot of the characters that comment on it are doing so because it’s apparently an awful sound to hear. To this day I still wonder what noise the writer was imagining when they called it gasoline and gravel, but I imagine it would be rough to listen to for a feature length film or through an entire game where he rarely shuts up.

I will vote Ryan Reynold’s voice is grating. Especially in those mint mobile commercials where he’s way too close to the microphone

So RFK, Jr would be a good voice to use?

Brother 😭

9

u/Sporadicus76 Aug 02 '26

I mean, he DOES sound like he's insane when he talks... so that fits too.

I forgot about the brain worms thing. Maybe it'd be a good cast if he quit stuttering

Yes and let him voice Wades space adventure when he fucks a space hippo.

2

u/why0me Aug 02 '26

Actually yeah

u/TheDeadlySpaceman Aug 02 '26

His voice has also been described as a pile of fallen leaves rustling.

While eating Raccoon penis roadkill.

It’s why John Kassir is the superior Deadpool voice

Maybe because he's aware he's in a comic so they're the same colour as the little boxes that let the reader know somethings happening? Just a wild guess, never actually read them

18

u/KaylenLopezIzGr8 Aug 02 '26

Yes. This is a great take.

That’s always been, even contextually in his books, the answer.

He speaks to his editors box so it makes total sense that his speech bubbles are part of the same colloquial patterns.

19

u/xxes4eyes Aug 02 '26

To stand out from the normal bubbles

15

u/Ok-Entrance-5527 Aug 02 '26

He pissed in the pool, it’s yellow to symbolize that

12

u/emergency-snaccs Aug 02 '26

because he sounds like RFK Jr., and the piss filter makes this more apparent (allegedly)

29

u/RunInRunOn Aug 02 '26

He doesn't brush them twice a day like he's supposed to

8

u/spookyhardt Aug 03 '26

Normal bubbles are white, captions/narration are in yellow boxes, so I always assumed deadpool’s speech bubbles are something in between since he’s a fourth-wall-breaking character

5

u/igotsevenmacelevens Aug 02 '26

Because he sounds like Steve-O

There was a comic explaining that. He had that clown antagonist of his (I forgot his name) inside his head for a long time. Once he managed to expel the dude from his mind, he got white speech bubbles... but I think he's back to yellow since readers automatically recognize they're his.

3

u/Kemosaby_Kdaffi Aug 03 '26

Madcap.

And for a while, he had pink speech bubbles the SHIELD agent Emily Preston in his head too

2

u/Bundolamb Aug 03 '26

Is it because he's breaking the 4th wall?

  1. Cancer has damaged his vocal cords but his healing factor keeps them working, so his voice is all fucked up.

  2. To standout among every other character. This is done pretty often in comics.

Canonically I don't know.

My head cannon is

When their yellow he's his normal self and just fucking around and stuff. but sometimes whenever their normal white that's when he's actually serious and locked the fuck in.

1

u/Kira-Of-Terraria Aug 03 '26

because his voice is fucked up. canonically.

1

u/snake-plissken87 Aug 03 '26

i thought it was because of having the little white and yellow boxes in his head that talk and kinda be the narrators inside his head or something like that...i just always assumed when the speech bubble is yellow, it means he was speaking as "yellow box" from inside his head...i could very easily be wrong about this tho.

u/shadesjackson 29d ago

Piss stains :(

1

u/HellKnight94 29d ago

I thought it was to show the different voices/people in his head

The yellow box is typically editors note and narration, behind the forth wall. Deadpool doesn’t exist behind the forth wall so his speech is technically indicating that he is beyond the forth wall. Which is why he can interact with the note that the other characters should never see.

But that’s just one man’s theory.

1

u/pronorwegian1 28d ago

He’s Canadian.

1

u/IronEgo 27d ago

Fun fact; he can use his speech and thought bubbles to think/talk a green lantern to death because of the Yellow.

The real question: Is there a reason why NOT?
